I am constantly hearing from many people, that colleges are straying away from standardized test scores as a huge admission factor. But on the other hand, especially on this site, it seems as if it is one of the most important things, if not the most important. Can anyone tell me the new trends colleges are following concerning standardized testing?

I think its becoming less important because so many people do well on it. In order words, its gotten less helpful to get you in, but it can still get you out. IMO

When we're talking about scores that keep you out of the top schools, what scores are we talking about? When I ask this question I mean the lowest scores that people get in with.

I agree with you, does anyone know??? especially for Duke

I'd say that a 1300-1350 (M+V) is pretty much rock bottom for the top 25.

Are you serious - I have many friends that got in top schools with a little more than 2000 on her SAT I. I am curious if others have had similar experiences.

And I guess that someone can't do much math considering that a 1300 is equivalent slightly below a 2000....

At top schools, test scores are taking into consideration. Mediocre test scores CAN and most likely will keep you out of top schools. Unless you are URM or a hooked applicant, or the rest of your application strongly compensates, bad board scores can hurt you.

At less competitive colleges, test scores are becoming less important, though.
