So, as you all probably have noticed people on the New SAT have done worse, this "theory" is proven because of the usual thousand who get a perfect score, only a couple hundred this time did get a perfect. Do you guys think that colleges will lower the stander of the SAT, as in, for example, a 1900 will be assumed as a 1300? Do you think that colleges will completely disregard the writing and just add up verbal and math...but even so the test is really different in both verbal and math. Oh well, just wondering...confused perhaps!

Wouldn't "lowering the standard" result in more people making perfect scores? Obviously, this isn't the case; there is more opportunity for error on the new test.

I don't think standards for verbal and math will change. I actually think the new critical reading is easier than the old verbal section (800 vs 760). As for writing, most schools will disregard it or cut some more slack since these are the first batch of scores and they haven't been proven effective yet in making admissions decisions.

the standards wont change because youll be competing against other human beings. itll be the percentile that counts.

Like anonymous said . . . I think percentiles will probably play a big role for the class of '06, since colleges don't necessarily now what a "good" number is thus far. So, you may be right . . . a 1900 on the New may be similar to an old 1300 because it puts you at the same percentile.

They will automatically reject all who scored a 2300 or better who post on these board and ask whether they should retake. Asking whether colleges will "lower the standards" with the new SAT seems a question styled on the unconvincing premise that the SAT actually sets one.

well said drusba. I think the great overseer of the universe has set aside a special hell for members of the 99th percentile who feel they scored poorly. If Christian ideals applied to the SAT, everyone would be in the 50th percentile because god loves all his children on an equal level. I think people who whine about being smarter than everyone else not only need to get their head out of their ass, but need to grow up and understand that the SAT is a waste of time with no purpose whatsoever.

Well, it is arguable that it was put in place to achieve white supremacy in centers of higher learning. But thats another long story

Agree with all of you with the percentile scoring, just wondering, I've talked to many admin. directors myself about this, but they are confused as well...Or maybe it was just a ploy.

what is the 99th percentile on the newsat, and what percentile was a 1400 on the old one?

690 in Reading was 94 percentile in nation, 93 in VA
680 in was 93 in nation, 91 in VA

It would be interesting if they repoerted Northern VA seperately, I bet 680 in math would be in low 80s or so.

I agree with Hamster, it's just a matter of time. I wonder how many made perfect 1600s when the first original SAT emerged in Harvard as a private test for scholarships. Probably not many.
