god i wanna know now! it's either stanford or washu, and i really much prefer the former, esp since i live in cali...

i dont believe stanford would do that..

i really hope you guys are right... i am positive she's a transfer. i go to cal with her, and we're both sophomores, so i'm sure she's a 2nd year transfer. i hope she's just lying or something... i worried the entire night after she told me this information. she's not in any sports or anything - regular transfer like any of us. i was missing high school and college transcripts, so i was worried they already went over my application and might have tossed it already, haha. anyways, you guys settled (somewhat) something that's been bugging/scaring me all week, so thanks!

anyway you can see the letter she got for yourself, just to make sure?

she said she applied as a theater major... maybe thats why?

wow, this thread has died. i'm just curious - if it's not too personal to ask - what were some of your reasons to transfer? i was also wondering (for those who have already gotten in as a transfer, but still reading this forum), what were some of your reasons? i can't wait until may 15th - the anxiety is killing me!

community college

the last time I called they said that they have received 1400 applications and they will be accepting around 60 applicants only JOY

xdjlao- My reason for submitting an application is that I took a year off from school doing volunteer work very nearby the school with Peninsula Habitat for Humanity, and also with a tutoring nonprofit who uses campus facilities.
Returning to the area would allow me to remain involved with these groups where I have already developed skillsets, and and currently I am unable to use due to the distinct lack of new low-income construction being built in the area around me by Habitat.
Academically I am at a very strong institution currently, but the school and major that I have chosen simply doesn't have enough offerings for my liking, such that the core requirements are very lax.

It is the only school I sent an application to, and understand that my chances are very slim, especially considering I did not submit new SAT scores and they took the old SAT scores they had from last year when I applied, and the fact that I had around a 3.3 in HS (although at a top school).
Stats:
Northwestern
3.96 GPA over 2 quarters
Solid EC's relating to my major of Social Policy
Recs were likely well written
780m/750v on old SAT

I'm at a CC now, too. I applied just to say I did. And sent in the $75 just to say I did. And took the SATI and two SATIIs just to say I did. And got behind in a couple classes writing the essays just to say I did.

Hmmm, actually, come to think of it, I applied because I was naive. :)

i applied because I want a more rigorous education, more intellectually stimulating students, and better research opportunities than what's present at UCI.

I have a 3.97 there now, and im doing independent research, tho my HS gpa (3.3 UW w/ max ap load) kinda hurts me, and my SATs are only mediocre : 2170 and 800/730/630 SAT IIs. My essays were actually pretty interesting i think; my main one was about me teaching my grandpa and four of his friends how to use computers in India. my other ones were about the lab, why i'm really intersted in the Renaissance, and why i wanna go to stanford. what do you guys think?

guys --

you applied for the right reasons. let the process work itself out. seriously

60 out of 1400?? wow.

i agree that everyone applied for the right reasons, but don't you find it quite interesting to see the reasoning behind another transfer's decision to potentially drop everything they've worked for?

on another note, does anyone know how majors work? on the application, they asked you to list your preferred majors (up to three) at stanford, do they really even consider your other majors for admission decisions? i know stanford doesn't have a business major, but since it was on the list of majors (and being the business-freak that i am), i chose it as my first. but looking back, i realize it was a stupid move and i really wanted to do economics/psychology... bleh. anyone think talking to stanford admissions at this point would help at all? i mean, i'm giving up haas at berkeley for stanford economics due to haas' focus on accounting and banking, my reason to transfer would seem somewhat hypocritical...

call and say MS&E...you want a more multidisciplinary approach to business that uses an engineering framework to interface business.

you're a genius! think talking to admissions is too late, though?

i hate calling Admissions, because listening to Mr. Raspy Voice (you know, the guy who says "Thank you for calling the office of undergraduate admissions...") before it switches over to an actual person is so painful I have to put down the phone

i'm planning to visit them tomorrow. i'm at berkeley so the drive isn't too bad - about 40 minutes. i've already visited them twice within the last few weeks. since you go to uci, that'll be a problem.

yeha. i just wish i knew what else I could do...I want to get into Stanford so badly, it's not even funny. does goign to the admissions office hlep? i can/will fly up there if it will make a differnece!

haha probably not... i went to turn in missing financial aid stuff and my official college transcript. tomorrow is the only time i will be talking to them about the application stuff. but yea, other than that, like what catcherny said... just wait it out until may 15th, because there probably isn't much you can do to change the future. kinda interesting... it's almost like your fate is sealed and there's nothing you can do to alter it!
