Seeing my competition is enough to bring me to tears :(. And to think Stanford rejects kids this amazing.

I feel owned already.

Regarding the stats, people may include the school type: private, regular public or competitive public school. With similar stats, you might have a better chance if you are from private or less competitive public schools.

I see the logic behind being more competitive from less competitive public schools with similar stats, but I don't get the part about coming from private schools. If you are from private schools, you have more opportunities due to financial advantage. It would look less impressive with similar stats and from private schools.

Add to my post above:
Top 15 public high schools in state, ~ 3% to ivies+smd.

to FBlalaland:
Some colleges have connections with some private schools, and private school students generally get admitted in a far higher proportion, at least from what I've seen.

My mother's friends' children all attend a private day school not far from my public school and they generally have more students who are admitted to top schools with lower statistics, though this could obviously also be due to large number of legacy/developmental students, a significant number of minorities, and a number of athletes who can afford expensive coaches.

The fact about the private high schools is that you have been paying $30,000+ a year for the past four years, very likely you will continue able/willing to pay Stanford, or others.

pianista, the students from private school may not have less perfect record, or are legacy. Four kids from my son's private school went to Stanford last year, two of them with SAT scores at least 2350+. They were all top 10 students ( in math and others) in their state.

I know. There's certainly a lot of very well-qualified private school students who do get into top schools. I'm just saying there's also several "less-qualified" students who also get in.

Sum = Rejection. I am not going to give myself too much expectation and disappoint. My SAT scores are too low, and a genius at my school with 2300+ with tons, tons, tons of activities and research applied (for FA though); I probably have very little chance. I only have youth leader, swimming and piano.

Bump bump whoever started this thread can do their stuff now i guess. Somehow I forgot to pledge though, so I can’t do it. I pledged on the Yale thread, but not this one for some reason.
