Stanford 2014 SCEAers

Are we taking about what majors and/or activities we would do in College. I plan on getting a mechanical enginering degree with minors in bio med and comp sci, and then go to med school for graduate, and eventually become a neurologist. My goal is to be able to create advanced prosthetics that not only function with brain signals like your normal limbs, but are also able to tell pressure, heat, and texture and send those messages to the brain. I know it sounds crazy but I really believe all human life should have the equality of opportunity that our founders had in mind and giving handicapped veterans and civilians the privilege to have arms and legs would be amazing.

PS: I hope I don’t sound boastful or like a show off, if I do I am really sorry, I’m not trying to sound arrogant

Haha, I don’t see anything crazy or arrogant about it. Sounds perfectly feasible and reasonable an aspiration to me. Interesting choice!

I guess when it comes to college activities, I would join a writing or literature club if there is one. I love writing poetry and writing political persuasive essays. I just like being heard and I feel that writing is a more permanent way for my voice to be heard. You guys know what I mean?

Volleyball and Wallyball!!!

Yes, QB as in QuestBridge. Yay our decisions are two weeks before yours! On the other hand, our Match rate is about 5% less (considering the already dismal rate). But hey, I get to try again RD even if the Match doesn’t pan out.

diivio: haha is that possible in four years?

I want to study mech or aero engineering. In terms of activities, I want to take a click language class and then join/start a choir where I can sing in that language.

What’s a click language? sounds interesting.

PS: I love applicannot’s name, I’m just a sucker for play on words.

I think I’ll be majoring in some sort of engineering but am not 100% sure on the specifics. Hopefully I’ll get in because Stanford gives you a few years to figure stuff out!

Also, what is Wallyball?

I want to major in Human Biology, as I also hope to go to Medical School to become a neurologist. I grew up with epilepsy, and it kinda fostered my interest in the brain. One reason I’d like to go to Stanford is to Research with Doctor’s in their Epilepsy research center; they’re developing a neural deep brain stimulation pacemaker, and I’d love to contribute.

My counselour said I should email the Professor, and I did, but he never responded. Is it normal for professors to just not reply to your emails?

I plan on majoring in English Literature and African-American Studies. I definetly plan on playing golf in college. I love that Stanford has one right on campus. :)

does anyone know how many URMs usually apply early to stanford?
do you think stanford favors URM and hooked kids during the SCEA round?

yay golf!!

I honestly have no clue what I want to do but gun to my head i would say somthing like comp sci/physics/psycology

@above, idk, i would assume the same amount and they LOVE URM/other hook kids whenever they apply…

my friend at stanford, was on the phone with me the other day, and he stops and says ‘woa, cool’ and i say ‘what?’ and he says ’ i found a golf ball with a stanford logo on it’
:P

i dont think having the EA rate up by 4% is a good thing, its harder to stand out!

I think the 4% increase is great, considering that it was something like 30% last year. We should be thankful. :P

YES! No one ever gets it!

haha
i have a stache of about 10 stanford golf balls… u find them all around campus. the guy collecting the golf balls on the tractor thing said to take a few so i did
and i agree about the coolness of applicannot’s name
although i didnt get it at first…

lol for those wondering appli[cant] becomes applicannot.

Anyway, I didn’t know Stanford has their own gold course on campus wow. Isn’t Stanford the biggest contiguous campus or something?

^ Yep. They also have their own shopping mall in case you were wondering.

A shopping mall!?!?! OMG. lol now I’ll feel even more crushed if I get rejected. lol this university seems to have everything!

Haha, I doubt any of us would actually go shopping, with prices as they are-- but still, it’s a pretty cool place to just hang out
