ahHhhhh

I love Stanford!; I hope the reverse is also true.

Any cross country/track runners in the house?!

I run cross country and track, but I’m not recruited or anything like that.

a month and change left to go…

So I visited Stanford on Wednesday, and what really struck me as awesome was the incredibly relaxed and laid-back atmosphere! Every single other college I’ve visited has had a hectic and frantic atmosphere, but Stanford was almost tranquil, even at peak times of student traffic. I love it!

We’re from IL, and my S is going into Engineering - he’s looking at Material Science, and then maybe Patent Law. His safety is Michigan (accepted already). He’s got a 4.0 unweighted, ACT 34, and decent activities - so he’s got a good shot at IL, but a long shot at Stanford anyway. Anyone want to weigh in on U of IL vs Stanford for this path - is Stanford worth double the $$.

When I used to live in Michigan we traveled to the New England area once to visit relatives and we also visited some top colleges there and the biggest thing I noticed about Harvard (this was 8 years back) was that everyone seemed so sombre and their education/homework seemed to be their biggest, almost seemed like their only priority. Personally I feel a little socializing is also important for healthy development (of course studying is important though) and Stanford seemed to show more of that lax yet high achieving atmosphere you don’t get at the East coast colleges I visited.

PS: MIT was the exception. That school was interesting.

I hated MIT. Like Harvard & Princeton, everyone seemed sombre and depressed. The buildings were old and had nothing nice about them. And there wasn’t a flower on campus, just grass and trees.

To Xombie: I didn’t actually take a tour or anything just saw it more from the outside so I guess I shouldn’t have commented on it, but the architecture of the buildings looked cool (Not all of them but the one with the weird shape, have no idea what it’ called you just see it on their letters sometimes.).

It may have been the church. It looks like something out of Star Trek lol.

Haha, unlike some of you guys, I’m trying to fall in love with another school and find good things about it; must detach myself from stanford so the rejection letter won’t be too painful lol

^Lol, yeah. I’m working on that… Unsuccessfully, I might add. :(

What alternatives are you guys looking at?

I’m looking into USC, Vtech, Vanderbilt, and UVA as some other options. I’m hoping for a USC merit scholarship - I’d like to get out of Virginia for a change of scenery in college, but only out of state schools like Stanford are really worth going to full-price when you live in Virginia, where I’m pretty much set to get into Vtech and UVA unless I do something really stupid in the next two months.

I took the tour at both Harvard and MIT. I had pretty much the opposite feeling of Diivio. I expected Harvard to be sombre and boring but it actually seemed upbeat. Maybe it was our guide. At MIT, I had the opposite feeling. Our guide was on her cell phone the whole time and, while it was nice, it wasn’t that exciting.

Anyone else think that MIT is just Harvard School of Mathematics and Engineering?? hah!

To Torcher: Ouch that seems harsh. Are Harvard’s engineering programs good btw?

Exactly a month left at most!

You know, it’s true. This really does feel like the longest, slowest six weeks I’ve ever known.
We’re one-third through, though! Two of six done, four to go.

Argh, I really need to just try to forget about it. I told myself I’d live like I’d already been rejected, but it’s so hard to stop twiddling your thumbs with hope and speculation! :****( Not to mention picking apart what you couldashoulda said/wrote/done. But, eh.

On a completely different note, when are you guys’ Thanksgiving breaks? I have all next week (22nd - 28th) off, which is nice. Especially since time always goes faster on breaks, so it’ll be December before ya know it!
