OMG sfg2014, No I missed you too. I think there’s also some named sg and I seem to get you two mixed up sometimes, but no excuses. I’m so sorry. You are cool too!

I’m in VA and a bunch of my friends went to boys state down in southern VA

Isn’t Boys/Girls State that one program where representatives are chosen from high schools and they get together at a camp-like thing and form a government? (Or something…I could be very wrong.) My AP US History teacher mentioned it to us, but I didn’t apply because I wasn’t very interested…

My mom took me shoe shopping today. I think she wanted to distract me, but while I was trying on boots I kept thinking, “I could be wearing these at Stanford next year!” I’ve been doing that a lot…imagining I’m there. Curse my overactive imagination.

No worries, dude. sg12 is very similar to sfg2014.

@mfed
i was supposed to go to boys state but i had another commitment (key club =])

wow we don’t have that in Idaho, at least I don’t think. I’m going to have to ask Nitro to confirm

They have Boys’ State in every state except Hawaii. I went as a representative from my school, and I HATED it. I did well enough (mainly as a legislator and speechwriter; I dislike the campaigning side of politics), but the whole thing was a huge disappointment. The governor we elected was an idiot and we had to impeach him, for the first time in Boys’ State history. And our mayor got kidnapped. It was all, in my opinion, stupid.

I did meet some cool people, but it almost wasn’t worth it.

lolllll? kidnapping and impeachment? how long does the [convention?] last anyways.

that’s why CNH DCON is the place to BEE

hahahaha

Boys state is a summer program put on by the American legion to simulate state politics and elections. I think it’s kind of just a southern thing even though every state has one. It’s a leadership thing. 2 from each state go to boys nation which simulates national politics and you get to meet senators and the president.
I was the only rep from my school. I was pretty uncomfortable with it because there was a heavy Christian influence. I am Jewish (but I don’t really look like it) and I did really well in the elections (District Attorney and head of Bar Assoc.) and was a finalist for Boys Nation, but on the last day someone asked me what church i went to and i said I was Jewish and some people freaked out and stuff and some said that they had never met a Jew before (haha rural OK). So that soured it for me quite a bit. But i learned a lot and everyone there took it pretty serious so we did not have Starmie’s shenanigans. I made some good friends too.

Our school didn’t send any representatives, I’m 100% sure about that. But that’s interesting anyway. Didn’t know stuff like that existed.

not all schools nominate people

mine did, then it stopped, but then it started again

some schools dont like the american legion (the sponsor of boys/girls state)

Oh at ours a real state senator was giving a speech about how “moral christian Oklahomans” need to take back their state. He said was an a.s.s. He said affirmative action and political correctness are ways for minorities to take over. And then he went on a rant about how Islam is infiltrating our schools.
It was nauseating to listen to, and a little horrifying that someone like that could get elected to anything.

@Starie, If we both get in I’ll trade shirts with you during admit weekend if you’d like. I have a New York, Texas, and Connecticut one! A Cali one would be awesome!

OMG, that’s a little scary…A state senator!!! I didn’t think racism existed anymore (I love my world of naivety). Surprisingly although we have neo Nazis up in Northern Idaho, People here in Boise are really liberal (liberal relative to everywhere else in Idaho,) and openminded

So some of you probably saw me on the other thread with the REA pledge which I totally thought stood for Restrictive Early Action. Does it not? I dont even know if i’m on the right thread right now… I applied early to Stanford (Nov 1 deadline). I’m pretty much a total noob at this…

I really wish morals could be exemplified without the word “Christian” always lurking around the corner. I go to church, don’t get me wrong, but I think morals would be given a lot more credit if people didn’t have the stereotype of mysticism along with it.

Restrictive Early action is the same as Single-Choice Early Action (REA = SCEA), so you’re in the right place.

yes it does :)

yea sorry again
i was responding the someone who posted before you

haha diivio, Landon was our rep for Boys State…

that program is alive and well in Idaho
