Stanford 2014 SCEAers

Well I’ve spent enough time here. Bye you guys take care!

@Prussia

“How many of you guys ordered Stanford’s viewbook?
I’ve looked through it online, but it only just occurred to me to order a physical one. They’re only sent out until mid-December, so if you want one, hurry up!”

Where might I find the page for this? Or is it just the general mailing sign-up for prospective students?

It is on the prospective student mailing list. If you click on that, it mentions at the top of the page that signing up will get you a viewbook sent over.

The viewbook is nice because it offers a lot of testimonials from students at Stanford. It’s not focused so much on statistics and admissions so much as it is on Stanford itself.

Ah, okay. Thanks.

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive one? I signed up roughly a week ago…

what’s this viewbook thing all about? what does it contain? Is it free?

Aww, man, why’d you tell me that!? I just signed up today, and I don’t want to receive it the same day as my rejection! Or even worse, the day after!
Haha…
I dunno how long it takes to arrive.

It’s basically a big book filled with pictures, testimonials, information, et cetera about Stanford. Colleges send viewbooks to prospective students basically as big, shiny, picture-laden advertisements to get them interested. They’re really cool, though.
And yes, totally free.

The viewbook is just book all about Stanford. Like their dorms/food/what student’s say about it/location/activities. It is free. I can’t remember how I ordered it, or even if I did, but I got one. I think the discussion on how to get it is above ^.

It took like 1 and a half weeks for mine to get to me. I think I vaguely remember signing up for one. So…it might be the same time decisions come out…

Thanks you guys I downloaded it just now from their website.

I DON’T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL ON MONDAYYYYYYYYY.
and on a side note: ha:P no one can find me on facebook. i’m unsearchable hehehe(evil laugh)

oh. and what was with that thread last year that was like " if you can loin into this, you got accepted" i never figured out what that was ( though I know it was a hoax)

We’re almost at 1000 posts. Go Cardinals!

That reminds me. Should we have a pledge thread about reporting our decisions, rejection or no? I know Yale has one, and while I shall oppose that rival SCEA scoundrel to the death, I think it is a good idea. It would help get more accurate statistics come decision-time.
Basically, you post a simplified version of your stats before adding yourself to a Pledge-To-Report-Decision list. (That way, if someone chickens out, you can go back and calculate their stats under rejections.)

and you know what makes me angry? stanford didn’t take a research abstract…not that i think of it i should have just explained it in my intellectually engaging essay instead of making that essay about why I love research so much. ><.

@snowy435, I was kind of angry that they wouldn’t accept them either, but now I think it’s pretty fair. A ton of people have done research that apply to Stanford, and I don’t think they have time to read through all of them, and keep everything else about every single applicant in mind. Plus, seeing as how they offer early admissions, they are already working earlier in the year. Harvard accepts them but doesn’t have early admissions. Doing research isn’t that rare, and if your research is good, they can tell because you’ll have won awards or been published or something.

@Prussia, as much as I hate copying from Yale…I think the idea is a good one. I love number crunching! Wanna make the thread?

Sure! I’m on it.

Yet again, thanks Prussia.

what’s this pledge thread all about? Yeah Stanford doesn’t take supplementary but Harvard, Yale, and Princeton do so your research will help you out there. These isn’t really any research opportunity here in Idaho though…but we do have a lot of computer science and engineering internships, and I wanted to send something on that but alas, we must adapt.

Hahaha, like I said, almost everyone has done some sort of research/internship, so I don’t think Stanford cares so much about proof that you’ve done the research, but like time and commitment and how it fits into your other plans.

@Prussia, you’re good at this thread making thing. And this research for statistics/information for everyone else thing.

true. true. after reading some of those essay on that fb link I totally feel like im not getting in. i wish i did them differently.
