Will a 2220 SAT hurt my chances at Stanford? I also have a 35 ACT but I want to submit both scores.
Stanford requires both and will use the higher. It is unlikely that will make a difference unless the other parts of your application are outstanding and/or you have a hook, however.
Just a clarification for future readers: Stanford requires both the ACT and SAT when one (such as yourself) has taken both exams. If you had only taken the ACT, the SAT wouldn’t also be required.. I’m sure @TooOld4School knows this, but I just wanted it to be clear for others.
@timduncan1089 - did you by chance only take the SAT to qualify for National Merit? My ds had also taken both, but he only took the SAT to get NMF. It was a score from his sophomore year of high school. While his score was slightly higher than yours, it wasnt by much. And he’s a happy Stanford student now. Scores are only one facet of your application. Do you have Subject Test scores as well?
Can you just submit 1 SAT subject test even if you took 2 or 3? DD got 680, 680 but 780 on English.
@Hoggirl I don’t even know what national merit is. I just took both exams because many kids at my school did the same. And yes, I took 4 subject tests. My scores are 800 physics, 770 math 2, 760 Bio M, and 760 chem
@10s4life - National Merit Semi-Finalist is determined by the PSAT. To move on to National Merit Finalist one must take and earn a qualifying score on the SAT. Unless that’s changed in the last two years.
@timduncan1089 - you’re fine on scores. That 2220 is not a problem, IMO.
@kath00 - yes, you can pick and choose among subject tests since they are optional.
