{Stanford and Dartmouth CHANCE}

Okay, hi guys. I am currently a high school sophomore with a dual- credit college hours. I live in Texas, looking to see if I can get into either of these schools.

Highschool GPA: 3.86 unweighted

College GPA: 32 hrs, 3.72 (I know these schools might not take it)

                                     EC:

-Active member of college Rotaract club

-Member of College orchestra for 2 years, played for 7 years total

-Active member of NHS fo Highschool, VP

-Trusted Treasurer of Student Council, going for pres next year

-Internship with Texan Congress on Saturdays

  • Honors College

-Started business that has taken off.

-Completed research with a professor, might be published

-Founded successful HOSA chapter at my school

-I am a good essay writer, have won writing rewards.

                                      Hooks:
  • Started college at 14
  • 100% Black( Is affirmative action relevant?)

-First Generation from South America

-For Dartmouth, Maxim Thorne is my cousin if he counts for legacy

  • Aiming for Microbiology Major with another major in English because I love the stuff
                                         Scores:

  • All commended on STAAR

-1450 practice test score on New SAT (Shooting for this on actual too, maybe 1500 range)

-Possibly take AP Biology and SAT subject tests to prove my interest.

  • 100 on stress test, haha.

Thanks guys! Excited for feedback soon! Be honest!

To be competitive at ANY Ivy or highly ranked college, you would need at least a 2000 + SAT score
If 1500 is the absolute best you can do then you won’t be getting in, in my opinion

Thanks sweety, I was talking about the new SAT, which is out of 1600.

Jeez, why would I even ask this question if I really got a 1450/2400…? Lol, you guys scare me.

I think I should highlight the word New for people that don’t bother reading the entire phrase and jump on me for the number, lol.

Oh, I also have recommendations from Maxim Thorne, 3 teachers from high school, my high school principal, 3 college professors, and the political leader from my internship.

Pleaseeeeee

First of all, stop bumping your post every 3 minutes.

Secondly, stop reposting chance threads every 4 hours.

Lastly, I guess Ill chance you… You’re ending Sophomore year with 32 hours in college, that is great;however, your GPA puts you below around 90% of Stanford students. Their CDS shows that 93-94% have a GPA of 3.75 and although some of the GPAs may be weighted, you’re still on the low side. Assuming you get about 50 points lower than your practice test(I normally say 50 less for wiggle room), you’re at the bottom of their middle 50.
Why on earth do you already have tons of recommendation letters? You need 3-4 MAX and you need them from people you know… and, getting letters of rec from people related to you is a bad idea, thatd be likke Lebron James’s getting a rec from Lebron… Maxim Thorne, is most likely not a good letter of rec unless he has taught you or had you as an assistant for 2-3 years and even then family members aren’t good… As a sophomore, racking up letters of recommendations is just stupid; you’ll have new teachers that like you, and you should have letters from recent teachers, not 2-3 years ago teachers or two years ago internship mentors. Basically, you’re going to have to get all new letters again in about a year and a half.

Dartmouth is known for wanting people who excel outside of the classroom, and your ECs are lacking a bit… starting a business is cool but like most common ECs, everyone has been doing it lately. Look at the amount of students here who have either started a business or a charity, albeit CC isn’t a good data set, there are hundreds. All of the other ECs are trivial things…

Anyway, since I’ve been a sorta debby downer so far, your course rigor seems good assuming you’re not just taking joke humanities and such at college;however, a 3.7 reaks of “bit off more than I can chew.” Being URM will help. Although it alone won’t make you competitive, it could tip the scale in your favor.

tl;dr Don’t get recs from your relatives. Don’t get recs two years in advance. Your GPA isnt great and your projected SAT isn’t great enough to make up. Being URM will help but won’t alone make you competitive. Your course rigor is good and if you work on that GPA you could get a better chance.

Current chance:
Stanford: High Reach
Dartmouth: Mid Reach

P.S. Starting college at 14 isn’t hook, tons of kids do AP classes at that age and they’re equivelent.

P.S. P.S. On mobile so the grammar and spelling may be bad.

In Texas it is not unusual for some graduating classes to have 20 valedictorians due to the massive grade inflation.

So when reading your app the main question will be how you fare compared to others at your HS. What is your class rank?

Agree with others: don’t get a letter from a relative. Your URM status may give you a boost.

You have no clear reason on why you pick Stanford and Dartmouth. Completely different schools. In fact polar opposites. This needs to be flushed out

Top 9% of school, I can bring that up to 5% probably by the end of highschool.

Uhm, I guess I forgot to mention what exactly I did in Rotaract.
I went to India and administered Polio vaccines.
Internship will be a 4 year thing.
College research will be continued for 2 more years
Totally get the no relatives rec thing.
These are profs that I am taking for most of my classes, the rec letters are not being racked up. They just said that they will write them when the time comes.
The college gpa is standalone, I can bring up my gpa in college to about 3.86 by the end of this semester. Not really worried about biting off too much.
And no, this 3.7 right now is in a biochemistry degree.

Hopefully I can get SAT around 1525/1600 mark.

Who can chance for UC Berkely?

quit asking the same questions and spamming.

Sorry, the first two posts I didn’t really know which schools I wanted. I’ve tried to narrow it. Sorry!
