No one has chanced you yet, so I'm going for a spin.

Your upward grade trend is indeed highly impressive -- you went from decent (3.6) to superb (3.95), in addition to the fact that you're taking a rigorous courseload that includes courses at Columbia U. Bravo! Your SAT total of 2070 is good, but if you can get a 2200 that would be even better ... but I will note that retaking SATs in your senior year is generally not encouraged by admission officers. However, if you can bump it up by 100+ points, go ahead! Your SAT Subjects are fine ... I would retake your SAT I instead of your Subjects ... even though your SAT Total isn't that bad.

On the other hand, your ECs are superb. I don't really know how you can balance varsity sports with pro singing, but apparently you can. (That's impressive!) You seem to enjoy singing very much and you seem to be a physically active person. The only visible weakness in your ECs is that you lack an academic EC ... but your ECs are so good I wouldn't even care at this point. You also demonstrate leadership and total commitment, focus, and dedication for all the clubs you're in. You're like a pretty good-tasting cake (I'm saying this because your GPA/SAT are pretty good but not the best) with perfect frosting (your ECs are tip-top) on top.

If you want to be even better, convey your passion for singing in your CommonApp EC essay. Make the impression on admissions that you would keep on singing in college if you have to. It seems like something you truly like to do.

Lastly, your letter from the director of sociology at Columbia will definitely add weight to your app. It's an edge that you have over most of the applicant pool.

Overall, you're a solid applicant! Good job in HS and keep it up in college. Boost your chances with strong essays.

Chances:
Columbia: Reach (Heck ... they're reaches for everyone, but you can try to also mention how much that work with the sociology guy meant to you in your Why essay to add more weight ... make them think that Columbia is your #1 school)
Duke: Slight reach (GPA ... but your upward trend is good ... SAT is a teeny bit low for this school ... but you're not way off)
JHU: Slight reach (Ditto)
Chicago: Your academics are in line with what Chicago is looking for. But I will tell you that Chicago is so essay-crazed that they'll probably base their decision on your essays, especially when the applicant pool will be much larger this year for Chicago with their adoption of the Common App
Georgetown: Match
Carnegie Mellon: Match
Oberlin: Don't know the admissions well enough ... but heard it's a strong LAC

Concerning the universities i'm applying to, I DO NOT want to go to Oberlin - i know nothing of it. It's just that my college counsellor was the former dean of admissions there, and so he has guaranteed it to me if all else goes south...

you should be fine for all of those. except for stanford, b/c it's pretty damn hard to get in. i live next to it, and we get the stanford talks every year pretty much.

Wow that's an amazing guarantee. I bet anyone would kill for that guarantee.

Haha thanks, I am pretty lucky - i just wish i was a bit more thankful =P. Stanford is truly my dream though, and I feel I have successfully conveyed that in my essays.

As for my personal statement, it is about me screwing up my opera solo in front of 3,000 people, next to Pavarotti during his last performance ever. So if that's not unique, I don't know what is haha.

Wasn't his last performance at Torino in 06?

Very good observation, I am referring to his last performance at the Metropolitan Opera though (where I sung) - which was a performance of Tosca. My solo, which I so tragically messed up, was the Shepherd boy solo.

WOW @ the OPERA singing. Did you really have an opera solo next to Pavarotti??
That's crazy.
I'm not that familiar with the admissions process, but I think you definitely have a solid shot at getting in.

colleges are looking for diversity and desire/drive to learn and you seem to fit both so your chances are as good as anyone esle's who even has a chance....no one is a shoe in!

Managing my ECs was very difficult. Ninth grade was incredibly stressful, I would normally go to school from 7-3, then soccer from 3-6, and perform at the met from 7-1 am. I did manage, but at the cost of my grades (9th grade gpa was very low - roughly 3.3). Anyway, I just hope colleges don't think I am exaggerating with the hours i wrote down for my ecs on the common app - virtually every hour of the week was taken up...
