Stanford bioeng - delayed recommendations

I applied for Stanford Bioeng dept for which the due date was 12/1/09. I requested recommendations from my professors more than a month ago and they all agreed to send it. So far only one prof sent the recommendation before the due date, second one is procastinating inspite of repeated requests and the third is MIA and went out of country. I am afraid that my application might not be considered as Stanford wanted all parts of application including recommnedations to be sent before 12/1/09.
I am very frustrated that I might get rejected without a fair consideration.

Anyone know if Stanford will consider late recommendations?

Thanks

I can’t tell you what Stanford’s policy is, but I have the same situation with one of my schools. Deadline (albeit the early one) was last Friday, and one letter is MIA. I would call the admissions department and just inform them that you’ve done everything you can to get your application in in time and see what they say about whether or not this affects your position.

I’m in a worse position. I requested my transcripts to the graduate office early on. I then realized that’s wrong and I did a rush request for another double transcripts to the dept. I copied the Dept mailing address from their site. They did not have a stupid room number. UPS called me on Nov 30th that the address is wrong. Unfortunately this was like after they tried delivery. They tried delivery the week of Thanksgiving but Stanford office was closed. I didn’t get notified of the failure till Nov 30th. I call back and they say they have to deal with it next day. Dec 1st, I call back they say the package has to be shipped BACK to my school for them to fix the address. Now I already sent 4 transcripts out. I’m not shelling out another $60 or whatever for another 2 transcripts. Well I call my school and they say yeah we’ll fix the mailing address. UPS delays forever and it FINALLY returns the package to my school YESTERDAY. I e-mail out immediately saying please I need this fixed ASAP.

I also initiated electronic upload of my letters of rec from my college’s career center because they act as a repository for my professors’ letters. THIS WEEK they tell me they could not do it along with another Stanford applicant. I emergency email Stanford telling them I gotta snail mail it in. They say ok.

I’m a freaking week late. I think I just threw all my app money into the water. Today I get an email saying I’m missing letters and my transcripts. I told them yeah I’m rushing my career center to resend those letters via snailmail AND to fix that damn UPS package. Ugh. So screwed.

I feel like this question has been asked 10 times this week. The answer is still: if your letters of recommendation arrive before the admissions committee begins deliberations/are not heinously late, you’ll probably be fine.

Most programs at Stanford inform you if your application is incomplete. It seems to me that this means, up to a certain point beyond the deadline, missing LORs, transcripts, GRE scores, etc. are okay.

I have not recieved any email so far from Stanford about missing recommendations, that gives me some hope that they are willing to wait.
