When an admissions officers sits down to read your file, how much information do they have on you and your school? Now look at what you’ve provided and ask yourself how anyone could even begin to assess your chances. Not that they could anyway, even if they had a complete profile of you.
Okay, I’ll play along. From what you’ve provided, probably at least 30,000 of the 42,000 apps that Stanford receives will be at least similar to yours. That’s where you stand in my opinion.
Good thing I don’t actually want to go to Stanford. #overrated.
“Good thing I don’t actually want to go to Stanford. #overrated.”
??
if you don’t want to go to stanford, why the hell did you ask people to chance you for the school?
Is that not what we do in this ‘chance me’ thread- list out the thousand accomplishments that we have achieved by the age of 17( including curing cancer) and ask total strangers to predict our chance of winning the ivy league lottery. For the most part we know it is a crapshoot. I thought I need to do my part in keeping this inane yet fun game going. So that’s why I posted to chance.
Obviously your GPA and SAT are great. With USC, show them some love. Visit if possible. USC llikes high stats candidates as long as they don’t suspect you of treating them as a safety. Check out Madbean’s threads on the USC forum. You could be a candidate for a merit scholarship from USC.
Asking about “the Claremont colleges” suggests you’re not serious about them. There are 5 and they’re different from each other. In another thread you asked about engineering, so I would assume you’d be interested in Harvey Mudd. Being a high stats female would help you there. But they care a lot about fit so you need to show that you understand what they’re about. None of the other Claremont colleges offers engineering except through 3/2 programs. Have you visited these schools?
Saying “varsity speech and debate” doesn’t tell us much about your participation in that EC. Have you been a finalist at any tournaments? You have the GPA and SAT to be competitive but you need to stand out from the other high stats candidates.
Thank you! I appreciate your input; you clearly know what you’re talking about. Planning on visiting Harvey Mudd over spring break.
That’s all well and good. But the question was, and you did not answer, why did you list Stanford in your title list of schools if you have no intention of applying and/or attending?
I’d hoped someone helpful (like Corinthian ) would share some useful information about colleges I listed. I’ve just begun my exploration of colleges and was interested in gathering information. I am trying to find my fit and nothing more. In response to my post, a poster implied that Stanford is out of reach for me: course I’m going to say “it’s overrated”. I was kidding.
Stanford is not out of reach. But I think what @Falcon1 was pointing out is that you need to figure out how to stand out among the many other high stats candidates. Also, if you decide not to pursue engineering, then I’m a big fan of Pomona (my D is a freshman there). All the schools you listed are within reach for someone with your stats, but obviously there’s lots of fierce competition. The more you can stand out with your essays, awards, well described EC’s, LOR’s, etc, the better your chance to stand out from the crowd. With USC, be sure to apply in time to qualify for merit scholarships.
Thank you @Corinthian. I am definitely planning to visit Pomona as well. Also appreciate your calm clarification of @Falcon1’s post.
