***Stanford Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion***

@emenya‌ Just make one REA Results thread. Actually, mind if I make the thread?

Yeah of course! @Hawkace‌

This is not okay there are only two weeks left for us regular REA people

The fact that there is now an official results thread is kind of terrifying. Good luck to everyone hearing back tomorrow!

Haha, it was so terrifying for me to make the thread. I can’t believe that the time has come. It feels like yesterday when I submitted my application. Good luck to the QB finalists!

So after reading through everything here, i finally bucked up and created my account so I could join in with the discussion. I’m a REA applicant and I am probably just as nervous as all of you. I am also a bioengineering major, as I know saw some of you guys said that was your intended major. I am so excited to find out, and so nervous as well! Good luck to everyone, after reading all the posts I feel like I really know you guys :)

@detwylder‌ Welcome to the family lol! And Bioeng=Best Major of all time :)

Good luck to all of you who applied SCEA and QB! I regret not /:

Good luck to all! I am an athletic recruit to Stanford and have been stressing over the admissions decision since I applied and visited at the beginning of November.

We gave it our all  Though the decision is really intimidating, I mean…we really did try our best. I find it really assuring to think that if Stanford does reject me, I really wasn’t meant to go there. So many awesome schools out there!! LET’S DO THIS.

I don’t know if this is still going on, but I applied for the EA for economics!

please chance me if you have a moment? My entire community/family thinks it’s a sure thing for me getting in and I know that is far from the truth so I really would appreciate some impartial opinions.

@trx1150‌ as an athletic recruit aren’t you pretty much guaranteed in? Also, what sport?

@detwylder‌ Kind of. I’m being recruited for track and field. I have a profile that matches an average or maybe slightly below average Stanford applicant, but the coach supporting my application greatly increases my chances. Since there’s still a chance out there that I won’t get in (and I have no idea how high or low that chance is), I’m still as nervous as the next guy.

@trx1150‌ that’s interesting. There is a girl at my school who committed for lacrosse and she seems pretty certain that she will be going there (almost rubbing it in my face X( ) Is there a difference between being recruited and actually committing by signing letter of intent? I feel like most athletes recruited get in, but that’s just coming from a nonathletic (or rather not good) runner :)

@detwylder‌ There are a few factors. The main one is whether or not the coach is supporting your application. That’s the thing that will get an athlete in. Athletes can be “recruited” to different extents. Some say they’re being recruited if they’re simply talking to a coach, but that doesn’t mean that the coach is seriously recruiting them. An athlete knows that a coach is serious about them once they’re offered an official visit, a visit to the college paid for by its sports program. From here, the coach will give the athlete application instructions and may offer to support his or her application through admissions if it’s a private university.

As far as a National Letter of Intent, this involves money. An NLI has a scholarship attached to it in some form or another. This can be as small as book money or as big as a full ride. Athletes can sign before being admitted, and in my case, I don’t think I’ve been talked to about an NLI because the track coach is waiting for my financial aid to come back. He wants to see if I get money elsewhere before he offers me money out of his program’s pocket.

So as you can see, there are a lot of different factors with NLI’s and the recruitment process. Let me know if you want to know anything else and I will answer it to the best of my ability.

That’s definitely interesting. I had no idea. Well I’m hoping that you get enough support from the coach, I guess some athletes really are in the same nerve-wracking boat as the rest of us :)

So I have heard different things regarding when they actually release the decisons for EA. Does anyone have any idea? I’m so nervous!!

Welcome everyone new! Nice to see the lurkers have jumped aboard haha

@Jennc9‌ I’ve heard everywhere from 3 to 5 lol. I think as the date gets closer they may release an expected time

Good luck to all the QB applicants!

@Jennc9 to add onto emenya’s comment: questbridge applicants hear back tomorrow and the rest of us EA applicants will get emails before Dec 15 (most likely on the 12th).
