@emenya @Jennc9 I’ve heard from a couple different sources that it will be Friday, December 12th at 3:00 p.m. Pacific.

@emenya @niawski , @trx1150 thanks so much! Glad to know there’s one less weekend of suspense :)

The wait is killing me.

I’m envious of the questbridge applicants that get to hear back already! These next 11 (or so) days are full of suspense.

I wish they would tell all of us our decision tomorrow… Whether I got in or not, I JUST NEED TO KNOW! I am having trouble sleeping at night, because Stanford is all I can think about.
But anyway, good luck to all of you QB’s out there! I can’t wait to hear who gets in!

Can you imagine? Right now, Stanford probably already knows everyone they’re going to accept. Right now, there could be a label of “accepted” or “denied” right next to your name. At this point they already know your fate, they’re probably just sitting and organizing the acceptance packets for the lucky few who got in…

I hope they made a mistake and accidentally accepted me. That’s the only way I’ll get in haha.

To take some of the QB scholars’ minds off of stanford for a little, do any of you mind sharing a bit about the QB process/what it involves. I’m pretty oblivious and quite interested :)

@emenya yep! I’m a lurker, finally coming out of the shadows because with >2 weeks I am def commiserating with you all!

Regarding @emenya and the other QB applicants. I was actually offered a QB application, but since I didn’t really know what it was, I let time pass and just never finished the process. Just like @Govgirl I am quite oblivious and didn’t really have a clue about the benefits until recently. I really regret not taking advantage of it earlier.
Can you QB finalist/applicants explain a bit more about what is is?

No problem everyone! I’d be happy to explain it as best I can. Settle down kids, papa emenya has a story to tell. :)

Ok so basically, Questbridge is a scholarship program for “low-income, high achieving students”. Questbridge has partnered with 35 of the top research universities and liberal arts colleges in the U.S. In the partnership with QB, the school has promised to give a full ride to matched students.

So the deadline for Questbridge is in late September (so early, I almost missed it!). QuestBridge staff themselves select its finalist from all the applicants. We find out if we are finalists in late October, this year it was the 21st. I think last year there were like 12000 applicants and 4000 finalists were selected as finalists.

Now, there are two different processes if you are a finalist. There is the College Match and then Regular Decision. I’m going to speak on CM because that’s what I did lol. So if you choose to do college match, it is essentially like applying to up to 8 schools for ED. Yes, multiple Early Decisions without breaking the agreement. So now you’re a finalist. Now you have 9 days to finish your supplemental apps (if they use commonapp) and submit that along with tax forms, CSS, by November 1st. They call it hell week. God rest your soul if you ranked up to eight schools .

Now your app is reviewed by the actual colleges that you ranked (in order of the one you would like to attend) All the schools are binding, so if you happen to be matched, then you must go to that school. The exceptions to this rule are Stanford, Princeton, Yale, and M.I.T. If you get accepted to one of those 4, you can compare with them with other RD decisions. (But come on, those schools with a guaranteed full ride? Pshhh if you decide not to attend). December 1st, tomorrow , we find out if we were matched to any of our colleges. You get matched with you’re highest one. Let’s say you ranked Amherst, Brown, Caltech, and Wellesley, in that order. You get accepted to Caltech and Wellesley. You’re going to go to Caltech, and you won’t know I don’t think that you you got into Wellesley. But you already can guess that you did not get into Amherst and Brown. And you don’t have to worry about money because you’re getting a full ride! But the odds of getting matched are really steep. For example, 20-30 people were matched to Yale out of 1800. Yes, that’s 1% folks. So it’s not that easy. (That’s why I’m not getting my hopes up haha)

The really amazing thing is that no one gets rejected during CM. So there really is no downside to applying. If you are not matched, you are automatically differed to RD, and many, many QB applicants end up getting accepted to their dream college during RD, with pretty much the same amount of FinAid. In some cases your app gets forwarded to other RD partner schools, so an even added bonus. So the advantage is that the schools you rank get not only your common app application, but also your questbridge application, which is really dense. That thing is a monster, but it really is a way to highlight much of the adversity that many that many of us QB applicants have been through.

I hope this sort of help and cleared up any confusion for you all. I’m really anxious for tomorrow and appreciate all of your support! I know the other QB applicants and I shouldn’t be too nervous because we cant get rejected in this stage. So after our decisions, I wish the rest of you well, whether you be RD or REA. Good luck!

Wow, thanks so much @emenya , that was really interesting! I hope all goes well with matching tomorrow! I assume Stanford was 1 on your list Please do let us know what happens, I’m interested in knowing where you end up and wish you the best of luck!!

Of course I will and thanks for the love @predent ! Lol I was reading back through what I wrote and I could edit a Wiki ;)

@jk132 You’re probably right! I’ve thought about that! All we can do is hope for the best :)

Good luck to all the applicants who get their decisions today! I hope all of you get in!

Is it weird that I am nervous for all of you getting your decisions today? I just want us all to get in!

At what time are QB finalists notified of their results? Good luck to you all!

So excited for you all! Whatever you find out, you’ll do amazing things!..I know you have heard this so many times because its the truth, but thought I’d contributed haha)

I believe that it comes out in 1 & 1/2 hours from now. I’m nervous. Why? :((
