I can’t wait that long!!! I have a physics c midterm tomorrow, and a calc bc test on thursday… I just want into college. I don’t think I will last until March/April!

I’ve realized that not only am I hoping that I somehow end up with an acceptance letter because I want to go to stanford (obviously) but also because it would mean the end of college applications and the stress involved. It would be nice to know where we’re going to be living a year for now.

Hi guys! I’m new to CC and I’m applying to Stanford early this year. I came across this thread today and I just decided to join! I’m so nervous–I hope we all make it!

@Ellenak96 Exactly, that’s all I can think about, it would be such a huge weight off my shoulders. I’ll have a tough enough time already filling out applications for all the local scholarships I’m applying for let alone actual schoolwork for another semester

Excited/nervous for a decision. Either way it will be nice to have a definite answer. Planning to major I’m chemical engineering and am from Alaska.

I feel you @Ellenak96 ! Yesterday, I was hoping to get matched (well obvs because it is Stanford lol) but also so that I wouldn’t have to finish the rest of my apps :)) But alas, I was deferred so had to scramble like crazy to finish my USC app last night before the scholarship deadline.

Welcome to the newbies!

The track and field coach told me that he’d call me as soon as he found out my admissions decision. Does anyone know if coaches get advanced notice on admitted athletes? I would love (obviously) to know if there’s a possibility of finding out a few days in advance.

@trx1150. Yes, coaches at Stanford can officially make an offer of acceptance once they get the word from the admissions committee…either by phone or early “letter”…even before the official decision day. Hope it all works out!

@gravitas2 Thanks! So it’s about a week and half before non-athlete REA applicants find out if they get admitted. When would you guess that the coach would find out and call me?

@trx1150. It could be as early as this week or as late as next week…be patient B-)

@gravitas2 Thanks for that. I’m now reassured that I could know a couple days in advance, but I’m now more anxious because I no longer have a specific date and time to look forward to… Haha, I guess that’s just the fun of all this!

Hey guys, sorry, but what it does mean for someone to be matched to a college?

@narmanc Kids get matched with colleges through the Questbridge scholarship program. Here’s some more info on it from a user named “emenya”:

Ok so basically, Questbridge is a scholarship program for “low-income, high achieving students”. Questbridge has partnered with 35 of the top research universities and liberal arts colleges in the U.S. In the partnership with QB, the school has promised to give a full ride to matched students.

So the deadline for Questbridge is in late September (so early, I almost missed it!). QuestBridge staff themselves select its finalist from all the applicants. We find out if we are finalists in late October, this year it was the 21st. I think last year there were like 12000 applicants and 4000 finalists were selected as finalists.

Now, there are two different processes if you are a finalist. There is the College Match and then Regular Decision. I’m going to speak on CM because that’s what I did lol. So if you choose to do college match, it is essentially like applying to up to 8 schools for ED. Yes, multiple Early Decisions without breaking the agreement. So now you’re a finalist. Now you have 9 days to finish your supplemental apps (if they use commonapp) and submit that along with tax forms, CSS, by November 1st. They call it hell week. God rest your soul if you ranked up to eight schools .

Now your app is reviewed by the actual colleges that you ranked (in order of the one you would like to attend) All the schools are binding, so if you happen to be matched, then you must go to that school. The exceptions to this rule are Stanford, Princeton, Yale, and M.I.T. If you get accepted to one of those 4, you can compare with them with other RD decisions. (But come on, those schools with a guaranteed full ride? Pshhh if you decide not to attend). December 1st, tomorrow , we find out if we were matched to any of our colleges. You get matched with you’re highest one. Let’s say you ranked Amherst, Brown, Caltech, and Wellesley, in that order. You get accepted to Caltech and Wellesley. You’re going to go to Caltech, and you won’t know I don’t think that you you got into Wellesley. But you already can guess that you did not get into Amherst and Brown. And you don’t have to worry about money because you’re getting a full ride! But the odds of getting matched are really steep. For example, 20-30 people were matched to Yale out of 1800. Yes, that’s 1% folks. So it’s not that easy. (That’s why I’m not getting my hopes up haha)

The really amazing thing is that no one gets rejected during CM. So there really is no downside to applying. If you are not matched, you are automatically differed to RD, and many, many QB applicants end up getting accepted to their dream college during RD, with pretty much the same amount of FinAid. In some cases your app gets forwarded to other RD partner schools, so an even added bonus. So the advantage is that the schools you rank get not only your common app application, but also your questbridge application, which is really dense. That thing is a monster, but it really is a way to highlight much of the adversity that many that many of us QB applicants have been through.

I hope this sort of help and cleared up any confusion for you all. I’m really anxious for tomorrow and appreciate all of your support! I know the other QB applicants and I shouldn’t be too nervous because we cant get rejected in this stage. So after our decisions, I wish the rest of you well, whether you be RD or REA. Good luck

There is a scholarship program called QuestBridge which offers low income students the chance to receive a full-ride scholarship to schools that partner with QuestBridge. Partner schools include Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Amherst, Columbia, and Brown. Students apply to QuestBridge through a separate application which, if accepted as finalists, is sent in conjunction with a school’s normal application, allowing students to provide admissions officers with additional information about themselves. If accepted through an application process similar to an early decision program, students have “matched” and receive a guaranteed four year scholarship covering tuition, room and board, and other expenses pending reevaluation every year. If they are not matched, many students roll their applications into regular decision where, often times, they receive comparable financial aid packages to the national college match.

Wow. Congratulations to everyone who’s been matched, and best of luck to all those who haven’t been matched or are still working on their applications for Regular Decision. As a lurker, I’d often seen a lot of these threads getting caustic and unfriendly when someone posted that they’d gotten accepted/matched.

I was very happy to see people in this thread who had not been matched congratulate and genuinely wish the best for the people that did get matched. You wouldn’t believe it, but in my school, last year when a girl got accepted Early to a top Ivy, all the other kids that got rejected started bullying her and sending her hate messages and posts on Facebook. That’s a really sick thing to do and well, they went ahead and showed everyone why they’d been rejected in the first place.

So kudos to you guys for keeping a great attitude, and as long as you’ve worked hard, trust that you will get accepted/matched into a great college that was made for you (lol, overdoing the drama now).

Best of luck!

9 days!

@ outtocollege2015
Why 9 days? Isn’t it 12 days until the 15th when decisions are out?

Historically, decisions come out the Friday before the date listed, which would be Friday the 12th. @NWIStudent

ugh how attached to my email will i be starting that Friday at 3? very attached.

@Govgirl I normally run after school, but Ive planned not to since I would not be able to run knowing that email would be waiting for me.
