***Stanford Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion***

Awesome. Thanks so much!

Does anyone know if when you add an additional recommender through the common app you need to wait for the letter to be submitted to submit your application?

Are they strict on word limits?

@Tbosmom

I assume that your son’s Common App account shows the screen shot confirming that he has submitted his application successfully to Stanford. He should also check ACT or SAT’s website to confirm that his order was accepted and processed. As for LoRs, if his teachers submitted letters through Common App, it should show if the letters have been “submitted” and whether Stanford has “downloaded” any of those materials. That would indicate some progress.

Considering that your son is an ED applicant and all of his materials were submitted on 10/3/14, it’s not unreasonable for him to send Stanford admissions a brief email to inquiry. He should include his name, high school and Common App I.D. to help locate his application file. I would not leave it up to chance or his high school guidance counselor unless the counselor has personally taken responsibility for submissions.

ED deadlines are fairly stringent and they are submission deadlines in most cases we have researched. Good luck.

@ AttorneyMother Thank you so much. I’ll have him email them this afternoon. Yes, the Common App shows his application was successfully submitted as of 9/1/14. His LoRs from teachers say “Downloaded” 9/5/14 and the school report from our guidance counselor says “Downloaded” 10/4/14. I’m so thankful that you pointed out the difference. As of Friday, those items only said “submitted” so it seems from your post that “downloaded” = progress. :slight_smile: I have checked the ACT/SAT websites and both of his tests were successfully sent to Stanford on 5/10. In light of the new change from “submitted” to “downloaded”, I can have him draft a more specific follow up email just to confirm receipt of all materials. Just trying not to look too pushy. LOL Truly, thank you for helping us better navigate this process. Your post is so appreciated!

I’m applying as well, I want to do computer science.

Try this:
https://axess.sahr.stanford.edu/</a>
You can check if your materials are in or not using your son’s email.
It’s the same website us students use to access alot of our student info. Sorta weird that they have it at the same web address.

What time is the REA deadline? Is it 11:59 PM October 31st, or 11:59 PM November 1st?

i believe nov 1st 11:59 pm

December 15 can not come soon enough!!! I know it’s a bit away, but will the admissions decisions come in that morning or that afternoon?

I think they released at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Coast time last year, if I am remembering correctly.

help me? :slight_smile: i’m just wondering if they see/want first quarter grades for REA applicants <a href=“Does Stanford see first quarter grades Senior year? - Stanford University - College Confidential Forums”>Does Stanford see first quarter grades Senior year? - Stanford University - College Confidential Forums;

@Ellenak96 when I toured Stanford, they said that when you apply you just apply to the university, not to your major’s college. You decide on a major for sure once you get in and you’re pretty much guaranteed acceptance into that specific college because you’re already in Stanford :)

Hey guys, I scored 770 on Physics and Maths SAT Subject Tests… Is this low for Stanford bearing in mind that I’m an international student?

Good news! I used guccigirl’s advice and had him check his application status through axess. Within a few hours, he received an email confirming all his necessary application materials have been processed. THANK YOU! @guccigirl I so appreciate your post! Best of luck to all who applied!

@TechieCSG. Your scores are fine.

How much of a problem is a 700 on the math 2 subject test? I know that most people score really high on this one?

I’d also like to know this. I did (what I consider to be) not so great and got a 720. I thought I would do better given I have a pretty decent math background (5s on Calc BC and the AB subscore last year). I’m kinda hoping my 35 ACT will even it out, but admissions are so selective that I’m not so sure. Anybody have any idea how important subject test scores are to Stanford?

I submitted yesterday REA, but I don’t think I’ll stop pacing nervously around my room until decision letters are sent out :-S

Best of luck to everyone!

Once your scores are within a certain range (and most likely anything in the 700s is fine and a 35 on the ACT is stellar), it’s all of the other elements that matter. What have you done outside the classroom? What do your essays say about you? What do your teachers say about you? My d’s scores were in the 700s and 34 on the ACT and she got in. Her essays and activities backed up her strengths and told Stanford what she’d bring to the table. Yes, there are a lot of kids there with perfect scores, but not all of them. And even the kids with perfect scores are bringing something else interesting to Stanford. That’s the one thing she says over and over. Almost everybody there is interesting. They are so very much more than test scores and GPAs. Make that show in your application.
