That doesn’t necessarily open up a spot on the waitlist. They admit more ppl than they have actual spots for because they know many ppl will defer/decline. They predict their yield. It’s not that often that more ppl decline than they predict. That’s when they admit ppl off the waitlist
I see. Didn’t know that. Oh well . . . They did accept our request for deferred admission fwiw.
lol i’m so stressed about this
I think we should consider last year a reason to have hope. Also, it’s worth noting that they accepted slightly fewer(13 less) student
Does anybody have any idea of the yield rate Stanford got this year for the students they admitted? And also, does Stanford publish their target class size for each year?
@22996 a Washington Post article titled “College admission stats: Class of 2021” listed that Stanford’s target class size is 1,720 (don’t know if this was officially released though). As far as I can tell, Stanford hasn’t released their yield for this year, don’t know if they will at all lol
All info will be released at the common data set eventually.
My guess is that they will accept more from the waitlist this year. It seems to me that stanford accepted way too many “non-CS” students, and many of them likely enrolled somewhere else.
Tried calling today and yesterday and didn’t get a definite answer. I was just told that they are waiting on transfers to give them their decision but they have no date yet. Last year, people on CC started posting on May 6th so hopefully we will hear back soon!
Does anyone have any updates regarding the waitlist?
Yeah, the Harvard waitlist thread has been so active but no action here
Possibly not active much longer.
Early reports of Harvard with an 84% yield
Does anybody have an idea of the Stanford Yield this year? Do you think that the rise of some of the Ivy College’s yield might mean that more people are choosing them over Stanford? Of course all this is just speculation, but does anybody have any knowledge of how many waitlisted students might be accepted?
Has anyone tried calling the admissions office about the waitlist yet?
The fact that some peer schools (Harvard Yale etc.) have very high yields this year might mean more cross admits are choosing them over Stanford. But of course this is just speculation and can be very wrong, so don’t take this seriously.
@anliu1999 We don’t know Yale’s yield rate yet. Harvard has announced a record yield rate this year (84% vs 79% last year). But as you said yourself that doesnt necessarily mean it has gotten more cross admits from Stanford than usual.
MIT just said its initial yield is 76%, will take 14 from the waitlist.

Guys i heard rumors on reddit that some people were admitted on the evening of may 11th. Is this true? The letter specifically said "If you join our waitlist, we will send you an update sometime after May 15. "
I think I saw the same post lol I didn’t see anyone else online talking about being accepted (last year few people posted on twitter) so that person might just be trolling
I think the best thing to do is just the call the admissions office directly or email your admissions officer to confirm this information.
I received news on my portal last night
