Stanford/Harvard/Yale SCEA

I'm trying to decide where I want to apply SCEA. Any reccommendations? I've visited and I like them all equally well, I''m applying to more of a match school ED II so if I want to apply on the offchance of getting in, I need to do SCEA. I can only pick one. Do I have a chance at any of them?

GPA: 3.9 UW, 44 W (4.0 at Stanford since they throw out freshman year)
My rank isn't too good, there are a lot of 4.0, b/c our school doesn't weigh grades or rankings, so several people just take easy classes. I've taken the hardest classload possible though.

hey our stats are similar! anyway, i think location and your fields of interest should help you determine if you should apply to h/y/s early. what are you interested in majoring?

Classics!!! I hope to teach it one day as a prof

It also happens that those schools are the top 3 schools for classics, so it makes almost no difference in that regard.

i believe harvard is the best in classics out of those three. and then princeton.

I'm sorry soccerfanatic if I'm butting into this thread, but I have to choose between those 3 for SCEA as well. How does each one fare in economics, East Asian studies, and pre-med preparation?

Would it be worth my while to use the SCEA on Harvard? I'd love to go there, but I'm worrying that I might get rejected and could have made SCEA into Stanford.
rhs06:
I'm sure Stanford would have a good Asian studies program, especially since Asia is so well represented there. I don't know for sure, though. I tried googling your question, but could only find rankings for graduate and doctoral programs, sorry.

I would also like an answer to rhs06's question, but i only care abt econ & east asian studies.

IMO having the 4.0 for stanford might be to your benefit. if anything will tip your odds a bit it'll be that, although freshman yr isn't considered that heavily anyway. try to figure out which one you like...you have a shot at them, and all have roughly equal EA acceptance rates.

Your probability of admission to any of the 3 schools is probably under 10% unless you are a URM or from a stupid state (i.e. Arkansas, Wyoming, Louisiana, West Virginia, etc.).

The test scores are somewhat below average, EC's are average, and awards are below average for applicants to these schools.

Have to agree with Tupac. Harvard or Stanford early doesn't matter as you probably have an under 10% chance at both. EA helps the hooked at the top schools, the huge number of athletes, legacies, URMs and development candidates. There is nothing in what you list to differentiate you from the thousands of average score (yours seem even a bit below) candidates. You should use your ea/ed on a school where you have a significant chance!!

Why do you think Satnford is any easier than Harvard, they are pretty much equal so choose the one you really like. To be up front, unless you are being recruited for one of your sports, both schools will be not too likely with your stats and ECs.

congrats on first chair at all state!

Thanks! It was kind of a surprise, since I'd only had the audition material 3 days before I had to send it in, and most people spend theirs summers working on them.

I'm like 1/128 Native America, does that count? lol
And about using ED at a school where I have a significant chance, I'm applying ED II to Pomona, where I really want to go. I just have sort of a "free" SCEA option that won't make any difference with the ED II, unless I get in, in which case I probably wouldn't go to Pomona. I'm mostly just wondering where I should use it.
It's almost a "just to see" kind of thing

So... I know I don't stand out much, even with the Junior of the State, but would you say I'm at least an average applicant?

maybe you arent a ridiculously strong candidate to HYS, but you have a good chance, and that doesn't mean you can't get in.

what kind of activities do you want to be involved in while in college? think about that and maybe a clear choice will start to appear. (aka, does one have a better music program? better sports clubs and teams? etc)

and think about location.

the native american thing doesnt work.

(i am 1/16 but cannot get tribal affiliation)

most tribal enrollments require you to have 1/4 of thier tribe in your blood, some 1/8, a couple even 1/2.

(i've looked this up, lol, i really like native american history and kind of wished i could've been enrolled in a tribe maybe to learn more about the culture...)

Hehe yeah, I was just joking. I have freckles anyways, you would never guess I had any Native American ancestry.

Wait! Why are you applying ED II to a match school? You will have to attend if accepted. Why don't you just apply RD so that you give yourself a chance at your reach schools, too?

Pomona is brutally selective. I wouldn't call it a match, although there are schools that are bigger reaches that the OP might get into.

Well if I get into one of the SCEA schools, I'll know before I even send off the application to Pomona.
