While there is a lot of information about Harvard/MIT/Other Ivy conducting interviews in India, I haven’t heard anything about Stanford interviews. Does Stanford conduct interviews here? If so, how many students do they interview?
I can’t speak to India specifically, but I know that even in the US Stanford only very recently started trying to do alumni interviews. Relative to the number of qualified applicants, I’d think there are few active alums in India (compared to, say, California). The good news is that limited capacity surely means that not getting an interview does not mean “not admitted.”
A list of countries in which Stanford conducts interviews is at https://admission.stanford.edu/apply/freshman/interviews.html . India is on the list, but this does not necessarily mean sufficient alumni volunteers are available in all areas of the country.
It’s possible Stanford doesn’t focus on the international student population as much the other top universities. In my opinion, Stanford doesn’t have the global prestige that Harvard and MIT do. For example, Stanford dorms close over winter and summer break. MIT dorms never close so international students can stay on campus all four years continuously. Stanford international students must find their own housing. This isn’t a trivial matter. I suggest you consider this before applying to Stanford.
The Times World Reputation Rankings consistently rank Stanford, Harvard, and MIT as the top 3 in the world. All 3 do well in “global prestige.”
Stanford offers a summer quarter, in which students can take classes and stay in dorms, as well as summer room and board without classes. I did this one year. My roommate for the summer was an international student, who was from a royal family in Africa. Dorms do officially close during winter break. Stanford offers special off-campus housing for students who are unable to find alternative housing during winter break.
@cocofan : One of the reasons Stanford has the most applicants in top notch elite universities is because of international students. Its name is very well known to international students. Don’t assume it.
I wasn’t referring to world rankings. Prestige and rankings aren’t equivalent.
Did anyone get an interview from Stanford in India yet?
Prestige and ranking aren’t equivalent however they sometimes go together.
Yup got an interview!
Yes, Stanford University do conduct interviews in India. I had an interview a year ago.
