I am interested in majoring in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford or Operations Research and Financial Engineering at Princeton. Where am I better off applying early? Or should I just do MIT and UChicago early?

Colleges:
Stanford
Princeton
Yale
Harvard
Dartmouth
UChicago
MIT
Dartmouth
Duke
Northwestern
UIUC
UPenn (JF M&T)

I really appreciate the replies.

UIUC: In
NW: Decent chances

Stanford REA: Reach to high reach
Princeton SCEA: Reach to high reach
MIT EA: Reach to high reach
Chicago EA: Reach

I would say Stanford. Just wondering but why are you applying to Uchicago? It doesn’t even have an engineering program.

I’m applying to UChicago because its close by, but I’ll probably major in Bio there. Thanks for the replies.

Your list is high “prestige” but not particularly reflective of your interests.

Work more on “fit”, since you have math talent, engineering and financial passions. Suggest your broaden your engineering choices with possibilities like Carnegie Mellon, Rose Hulman. How about U Michigan? NW is a good choice.

Stanford is a crap shoot even for strong students like you, but may be a good fit if you are fortunate to get in SCEA.

MIT states no advantage for EA vs. RD and the statistics for US residents seem to agree. Internationals cannot apply EA, only RD, so the acceptance figures are skewed. Probably would not waste EA there vs. Stanford.

JHU and Case for biomedical engineering too.

Right now, my interests are really varied. I’m stuck between Business, Medicine, and Engineering. I thought the schools I am applying to will give me a good balance in case I decide engineering is not for me.

And I’d rather go to UIUC and pay in-state tuition than to UMichigan.

^ Absolutely agree, even I am from Michigan. UIUC engineering is at the same level as UMich.

bump…

Harvard has the biggest difference between EA and RD. You have a shot at all the schools you listed, and it will all depend on your essays now. With EA, your chances are a little better, but the reaches are still reaches.

Stanford - reach
Princeton - reach
Yale - reach
Harvard - reach
Dartmouth - low reach
UChicago - reach
MIT - reach
Duke - low reach
Northwestern - low reach
UIUC - safety
UPenn - reach
