<p>My DS is out of the country with limited internet access. I’m wondering if anyone can tell me if AP scores were uploaded to Stanford accounts, and if so where do they see that? A link would be great. Thanks!</p>
<p>I don’t recall my D having the ability to check her AP scores through any Stanford link. Here’s a link regarding how to get your scores:</p>
<p>[AP</a> Score](<a href=“View Your AP Scores – AP Students | College Board”>http://www.apscore.org/)</p>
<p>Looks like depending on where you’re checking the scores from (not where you live or where you took the tests), there is a 24 hour window. After that, everyone can check on Monday. Hope this helps.</p>
<p>The AP scores are not loaded into Stanford account unitl about the time orientation starts, in second or third week of September.</p>
For those parents who have students already admitted REA or current students with questions…ask away.
Gravitas2, I was wondering when the students who’ve been admitted REA sign up for housing. Are their housing assignments based on their preferences and on a first come, first served basis?
@georgiamum. All Stanford students (both REA and regular) get equal opportunities to rank list housing/dorm assignments in May…it is not done by first come, first served basis…it is equally fair to all students. You can start perusing this site even before you receive the housing choice handbooks later in the spring…
http://web.stanford.edu/dept/rde/cgi-bin/drupal/housing/apply/freshmen-and-transfers
It will give you the general layout of each dorm, etc…
Thank you!
Also, your child should be aware that some dorms/programs have special applications. Stanford assigns all roommates using their own special system and nobody finds out who they’ll be rooming with until move-in day. You do find out what dorm you will be in during August.
@pacnwmomof2 is correct. Stanford uses a special “sauce” system to assign roommates as noted in this article:http://news.stanford.edu/news/2010/september/freshman-roommate-match-091410.html
and they do have special focused residential programs/dorms that may interest your son/daughter depending on their interest as noted here: https://undergrad.stanford.edu/programs/residential-programs
Hope this helps!
Hi, experienced Stanford parents! Can anyone share with me what banks are conveniently located on campus for students? Thanks!!
There is a Wells Fargo branch and a Bank of America ATM. There are also some Stanford Federal Credit Union branches.
Just off campus, in Palo Alto, you will find a full menu of banks.
Thanks, @JustOneDad ! Wells Fargo it is.
Who needs a local bank? My son has his account with Fidelity. He has a check book and debit card. He uses the card to get cash from machines on campus and around the world. He works on campus and his pay is automatically deposited into his Fidelity account. He deposits the few paper checks he receives with his phone.
Fidelity has been great. When he graduates he won’t have to find a new bank. We both highly recommend this approach. Frankly, I think Internet banking is the wave of the future.
@fredthered I guess I’m old school.
Two questions:
Question 1 regarding bike: Is one necessary for an in-coming freshman to get to his classes on time if he lives on campus? I am wondering what percentage of freshmen walks? I actually want my kid to walk and get some exercise because walking allows you to take in the environment while allowing you to get in some exercise.
Question 2: Has anyone stayed at the Stanford Guest House for Admit Weekend? How is it? Also, if your kid plans to stay with a Room Host, does the Stanford Guest House allow your son to sleep over in their room for the first night before the Registration?
Thanks in advance.
I stayed in Stanford Guest House for a visit. It was overnight and we were hardly in the room so cannot really answer about the quality of the hotel. It was totally fine. However, it is far from the main part of campus. It is maybe a minute drive. It is “on campus” but the campus is huge. Why wouldn’t your child be able to sleep in your hotel room?
@websensation, my son does not ride a bike, but he is probably one of a fairly small percentage of students who does not at Stanford. Before he went, everyone insisted that he needed a bike there. However, he likes walking and was able to get to his classes on time while he lived on campus for four years. He currently is doing a 5th year co-term and lives off-campus. He still doesn’t ride a bike.
Is there any funding available for co-term or is it full pay for everyone?
@bwaygirl1: So jealous of you I am. I have never been able to get a room in the guesthouse.
Glad to see this thread revived… my son was admitted REA. We haven’t heard from his other (merit) options yet, but definitely planning to go to Admit weekend. We live in So Cal and are taking our motorhome (and dogs!) and staying in a nearby campground while DS stays in the dorms.
