Parents of rising seniors: Let the games begin

OK, since it seems there are already many junior parents here on the board, let's get the discussion going by introducing ourselves. Here are some questions that might help us start helping each other -- My thought is if we know where we all live, what our kids are looking for, and what schools we've all visited, we can share information as we come across it.

Probably would be easiest if we each put our info. on separate pages, instead of trying to "list" them all on one page.

Carolyn, I'm not the parent of a junior, but I have friends who live in CA. Last year their daughter was accepted to Sarah Lawrence and a large CA state U. She elected the CA school but wasn't happy there- lecture classes w/ 600 students. This spring she re-applied to Sarah Lawrence and has been accepted w/ a large aid package. Just a thought.

Susan, I actually thought of you with some regret while I wrote the original post. Wish you were going to be along for the ride, but glad that your daughter is set (how is she doing by the way?)

Andi, my daughter definitely wants smaller rather than larger. The reason UCSC is the only one of the UC's to make the "possible list" is that it is broken down into smaller "colleges" each with a theme that might give her some of the smaller school feel. I think, however, that it probably will not make it to the final cut, but I would like her to have at least ONE school in California on the list in case she gets cold feet about traveling halfway across the country. We are having a real problem finding "quirky and small" schools in California --- you would think in a state that the rest of the country considers "the land of fruits and nuts" there would be more small liberal (emphasis on the liberal) arts schools.

Musicmom - what was your (and your daughter's) sense of St. Olaf? How were the kids? Daughter had St. Olaf's on her list originally but dropped it when she became convinced, for some reason known only to a 16-year-old, that the people there would be "boring."

Momofthree, I think your son and my daughter are meant to attend the same school, meet, fall in love, and get married. Then you and I can be in-laws. LOL! :) If you make it to Earlham in early July, my daughter will probably be there for their explore-a-college program. Hmmmmmm.....

Sorry to invade the parents' forum, but I really do value your input and advice :) I'm a current junior.
