So, I have applied REA to Stanford University. What I really want to know is exactly how many people from India apply and get into Stanford each year. I know it is extremely competitive and I want to know what odds I'm up against. Thank you!

well it really depends on your stats (SAT/ACT, GPA, EC, etc…). Without that info, we can’t really tell you anything about your chances. Data from 2013-14, shows about 8% of about 7000 students were international, if that gives you any idea of your chances.

Thank you for that @crazyhappy .Well , my stats/ECs are:
SAT 1: 2330 (second sitting)
SAT Subject: Physics:780, Maths: 790
IB Semester Scores (out of 42): 39 , 38 ,38
Predicted:39 or 40 /42
Majors applied for(not binding): Material Science, Physics and Linguistics
Asian Male (Indian)
EC’s
- Selected to be a part of the school’s economic club.
- Honourable Mention in the national Panini Linguistics Olympiad. (Only 12 other people managed to receive it))
- Winter Break Linguistics Camp
- Designer of my school’s economics blog.
- Winner of a national science fair.(Team leader)
- Research Project at a top notch university in my country.(It has been published in the university website)
- Another independent research project at Siemens Ltd.
9.Organiser of Math fairs for an NGO( I regularly give speeches during these fairs)
10 Started a campaign to make government awareness brochures more “visually appealing”.(This shall feature on my Common app essay). The campaign has drastically increased the attendance at various government run medical camps.
12.Delegate of several MUN’s including the Harvard Model UN - Tennis Team in a multi activity club: Won several club level tournaments
- Active Member of the school’s environment club(Started a campaign within the club).
15.Script Editor at school theatre productions

I have outstanding recommendations from my Math and Physics teachers.
I also have an excellent recommendation from the professor of Material Sciences in the institute that I had worked in as an intern.
So, I basically stand out because of my campaign , my research and linguistics. My common app essay is about how I felt isolated and weirded out (being a techy science guy) in an art program that I attended and how enrolling into the program changed my perception of art.
My Stanford Essays are really great(witty, humorous and intellectual all rolled into one!)
I hope that will help you.

First of all, you should change the topic of this thread as per your actual question.

Second, I guess that around 50-100 people apply from India each year. Around 30 of them might be applying REA and 5-8 might get accepted (Again, these aren’t the actual numbers).

You need to understand that out of the 100 odd people that apply from India, only 30-40 might be actually competitive. From them, around 15-20 are accepted yearly.

From what I see, your academics are OK, test scores are great and ECs are great too but there isn’t something that makes you stand out from the rest of the applicant field. If your essays are good, I feel that you just might get in.

Also, do you require FA? If not, your chance of an acceptance increases.

@humblefool I do not require FA. And btw I thought research at IIT Bombay and Seimens and Linguistics makes me stand out because I’m not sure if many people have that combination. I guess I was wrong? :P

A strong applicant? Yes. There is no doubt about that. A stand-out applicant? Probably not. Had your research been published in an actual peer reviewed journal or had you gone to represent your country at the international level, then yes, you would have been a stand-out applicant.

Do not get me wrong. I am not saying that you aren’t competitive. If the adcomms find essays are good as you feel they are, you should get in.

Best of luck!
