This is my current list of schools to apply to. Is this too many schools? Too many reaches? Chances??

Super Reach
1. Stanford (parent is alum)
2. Harvard??? (hahaha, parent is alum/pressuring me to apply, but should I even bother? =p)

Reaches:
3. Brown
4. Columbia
5. U Penn
6. Georgetown

Slight Reaches:
7. UCB/UCLA
8. WUSTL
9. U of Michigan
10. Pomona or Northwestern or U Chicago

Matches
11. UCSD
12. NYU

Safeties
13. UCD
14. Boston University

Interests: Spanish/Swahili, study abroad, international relations, environmental science, history, art...

Why is Stanford super-reach but Columbia is only a reach? Columbia has a slightly lower acceptance rate than Stanford, plus you have legacy at Stanford.

bump bump....

Oh god! You're going to have an uphill battle trying to get into any of your reaches. Your GPA is in up there, but the Math SAT 1 is really a drawback. Plus your parents are alumni of two prestigious schools, and that actually work against you (unless they donated six figures checks to their respective alma mater). Top schools reason (whether justifiably or not) that people from advantageous background should be able to do better than other. Therefore having parents who attended top schools would put you in that category. I think you stand a good chance from your Slight Reaches to your Safety.
P.S.
Georgetown is definiely in your range too.

With a 1320 SAT, all of your reaches are super reaches. your best bet is a UC where SATs are low on average.

jumpingbean:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCD: Safe Match

ok, thanks for all of your honest opinions. I'm studying for the SAT I math in hopes of reaching 600, and I will be taking the ACT to see if I do any better.

ill venture a guess and say taht you're really good at language and stuff, but not so hot in the sciences and math. which is still all right, if you can really show off your essays and whatnot.
