Haha yeah.

damn homey, you and your acronymizzles

"For those of you who don't know, the Director's Cup is given to the college / university with the best overall athletics program. Duke is not even ranked in the top 5."

VirginiaAlum, take another look at your link. Duke IS in the top five this year which is particularly impressive because Duke's athletic budget is only a third the size of Stanford's and half the size of most big public U's (like UNC).

Wow, I kind of hate this thread.

Who CARES which is more prestigious, Stanford or Duke? They're obviously both near-top schools that are extremely well-respected--BUT EVEN THAT SHOULDN'T MATTER! Doesn't anybody care about the fit of the school, the people, the atmosphere, the town? It doesn't seem like anybody really cares about the experience while you're actually at the school, only the look on people's faces when you come home and tell them you attend Stanford/Duke/UVA/Harvard. Plus, there isn't going to be much of a difference in said look whether you say "Duke" or "Stanford" anyway!

The college admissions process seems to have turned in a giant contest, and it seems like EVERYONE thinks that HYPS is the right fit for them! There are a lot of different people on this board and I know that not everyone could possibly be happy at Harvard. Of course, a lot of people on this board also don't seem to care if they're really happy or not, as long as people's jaws drop when the see the Ivy League credentials.

It's frustrating that nobody seems to be able to get past the prestige, including myself--it's hard to escape the desire to go to a well-respected school because so many of us believe that doing so will make US well-respected, too. But eventually we're going to stand on our own, and it really won't matter what our alma matter is, only what kind of person, worker, husband, wife, mother, father, doctor, lawyer, or CEO we are, whether we graduated from Harvard of Cal State Chico.

Well said. After all, it's been proven that Ivy-caliber students make the same amount of money no matter which school they go to. The students make the school, not the other way around. Unfortunately, there are many people who only care about the name. Plenty of people don't even bother visiting the schools they apply to; they simply attend the highest-ranked one. It's usually parents who care more about the name.

"It's usually parents who care more about the name." - Wow, so, SO true of mis padres.

Ya'll seriously, chill out some.

This is like comparing the number 1 and number 2 teams in college basketball before the season even starts. They're both amazing, but when it comes to this level of nit picking, it gets crazy.

Either way, once you get off campus things change. Stanford has California, Duke has southern hospitality.

lee, that's so true its funny. I'm avoiding lake city community college, tcc, and santa fe like the plague.

i'm goin to carolina on my mind...
