My son is freshman and he is happy with MIT so far. He is completely transformed by the MIT community. He learn to cook, build things, participate in volunteering and social activities. I never expect that he has that much change. He enjoyed the IAP and right now starts to work in the UROP. I never hear he complains about the weather although he have lived in sunny California for 18 years.

coolweather – very interesting post! Can you tell us more about your son’s activities and social life at MIT? My son is attending CPW and I’m trying to get him to appreciate that MIT has a vibrant social community. I would love to know anything you’re willing to share about the non-academic aspects of MIT life.

I tried to pm you but your account doesn’t accept pm’s. Feel free to pm me if you don’t want to post details on the forum.

According to googlefight, MIT beats Stanford. But in DARPA challenge, Stanford’s driverless car STANLEY was #1 in 1st DARPA race. Stanford’s car Junior was #2 in 2nd DARPA race. MIT was not in top 3 in either races. Ha, Priceton was not even qualified in the final race. Here is a youtube link “when MIT meets Stanford”

MIT hands down. Ivies + Stanford seem to care less about merit, relatively speaking (frankly, too many idiots on campus). Graduating isn’t particularly difficult and admissions is hardly fair play. MIT, however, I feel respects academic prowess much more instead of connections, etc. MIT students/grads be proud, the rest of know that you’re the top of the top :P
