^^I guess what’s “wrong” with the school is that many international and east-coast parents will not put it in the same category as HYPM (and other ivies for that matter), so students admitted from those places+Stanford have a harder time a)not being swayed by their parents’ prejudices and b)eventually convincing their parents to let them ditch the northeast to head to Palo Alto.

lol same .

I would like to point out that if your son is interested in theatre, you can’t actually major in drama at Princeton. It doesn’t exist.

Is your son any closer to making a decision OP?

S is seeming to enjoy the attention if you ask me. Schools are calling and emails are flying but we are all sharing the information, including what I’ve obtained here on CC. Stanford is an amazingly beautiful school. Wow! The Princeton rep is persistent and the California kids at his school rave about Stanford.

I don’t think he intends to major in theatre, he’d love to continue acting though.

Did I mention that he is 16? This informs his desire to explore different fields I think (Stanford ranks high here) and informs our desire that he be close to family(Princeton ranks high here).

Oh and he may seek to defer and take a gap year. Decisions, decisions. He still has time.

Lol, wow, he must be brilliant.

I have to be honest though, I’m kind of enjoying the attention as well ;)!

NEED HELP!!! I’m confused about Stanford/ Princeton because I got into both as well. I want to take psychology - which is better for me???

If you are concerned about financial aid, try telling Princeton about Stanford’s offer (assuming it’s need-based) and see if they’ll match it. They very well might, especially since it’s really not that large of a difference between the two. Then you can focus on differences between the schools themselves.

I go to Princeton, and while I wouldn’t call the atmosphere “laid back,” most people definitely know when to relax. The campus is beautiful, the weather isn’t that bad (though it’s not as nice as Stanford weather). I wouldn’t put too much weight on the Anthropology department since he’s not completely sure. I especially wouldn’t worry too much about it if he’s thinking of going to grad school.

Both schools are great, he can’t really make a wrong decision :)

^To nasty123: Stanford has one of the best (and one of the most notorious) psychology departments in the country, if not the best.

Stanford’s psychology department is known for a lot of things ranging from the creation of the Stanford-Binet IQ test and MRI scans to the Stanford Prison experiment. In my AP psych class, the textbook we’re using was written by a Stanford professor (Zimbardo).

So if I were you I’d definitely take a deep look at Stanford.

I currently am in High School and taking psychology, and my teacher cannot stop raving about all the ground breaking research done at Stanford. He knows many world renowned psychologists from Stanford.

Social life is also better at Stanford and so is location and climate. To me, Stanford would be an easy choice in your shoes (ie. psychology major)

“Social life is also better at Stanford”

I really doubt social life is significantly better at Stanford. I’ve never been there, so I can’t say, but I do know that I am perfectly happy and have a great social life here at Princeton. Your claims seems a little unsubstantiated.

^Stanford tends to always top the list of “happiest students” rankings. Princeton doesn’t normally even show up.

Now of course these sort of rankings don’t normally mean much, but I think that’s where the poster who made that statement probably got his information.

[Test Prep: GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, SAT, ACT, and More](<a href=“Colleges with the Happiest Students | The Princeton Review”>Colleges with the Happiest Students | The Princeton Review)

If you’re referring to that ranking, we do usually show up. Apparently ahead of Stanford.

Stanford has the best psycology team in the entire world. No place is even close to Stanford in psycology. Its psycology department has been ranked by US-NEWS, and national research council as #1 for several decades, never even as #2.

Stanford has 9 professors currently in the prestigious national academy of science in psycology, while Princeton has 4, Harvard has 2, and Yale has 1. So Stanford > Princeton + Harvard + Yale in psycology.

Stanford is simply the mega for psycology.

I hate to be a spelling nazi but you do know that psychology has an h in it, right?

Not the 09 list.

How can you be happy in schools like Princeton and MIT with grade deflation? less than everything else. An institution should promote learning instead of letting students work day and night just to get an average grade.

looks around

Yep, people are still happy.
Even with grade deflation.

I’m not particularly a fan of grade deflation myself, but it really doesn’t make or break my day.

I guess you are a freshman. Wait till junior year when you are thinking about grad school. Most schools require very high GPAs to get in, something like 3.8 to certain schools. There is no label to say Princeton can be excepted. I am sure some get As’ and not concern with this grade deflation, but not the average students.

-P.S. I am 15 miles away from Princeton.

Lol, ironically, I was just chatting with my friend who is a sophomore at Princeton and she said that she is really unhappy right now. She said, “School is hard. That pretty much sums it up. (Sorry I’m so dour.)”. haha, I’m sure that this could be said at a lot of top tier schools, but she was generally really unhappy in her post. Hmmm, I don’t know, I just thought I’d mention it.
