Stanford vs. University of Utah Honors Program

My daughter is trying to chose between these two options. Frankly, I’m extremely biased as to what is the right answer. But child will not listen to me (and I try really hard not to say anything but she knows how I fell). Does anyone have personal experience with this choice who would be willing to talk to her?

If money is not an intervening issue, obviously Stanford. Is that your thought too?

yes, yes, yes, and yes!!! I want to find someone who had to make this same decision. Her 17 year old mind has totally warped this decision making process. And her parents are stupid and don’t understand.

Is she wanting Utah because of a BF? If so then that isn’t a good reason. Many relationships deteriorate once they go to college and she will regret choosing the school for that reason if they break ul

What are her reasons and what are your reasons?

So this isn’t your child. How do you know that this decision isn’t being driven by finances?

The gap between these school is very big. Are these the only two options?

Are you LDS? I’m sure Stanford is big enough to have an active LDS community if this is her concern.

Why the University of Utah Honors ? Is there a special program or degree that is not available at Stanford ?

What about cost of attendance for each school ?

@lindawells Unless there is a big financial issue at play, the clear answer is Stanford.

@suzy100: She said it was her daughter. I’m pretty sure that “her parents are stupid and don’t understand” is the daughter’s view of the situation.

Oh, even as a true blue Cal fan, I agree with @Penn95 and would not have objected, for example, had mine chosen Stanford for grad school over Cal (but very glad to have kiddo in Berkeley instead).

Ah, got it. I blame Daylight Savings Time.
