Stanford Vs Yale

Hi

I am a senior applying to colleges this year. I am applying early to Yale, and will apply regular to Stanford and a bunch of other colleges. If i do get admission into both Yale and Stanford, I feel that I will be torn between the two. I am very interested in biochemistry. Ihave heard that Stanford's biology program is ranked as #1 in the country, whereas Yale does not share the same reputation in the sciences. As an undergraduate, would I be missing out on a great science education I would receive at Stanford if i choose Yale instead? Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each. Thanks

You say you would be torn between the two, but you are applying early to Yale. I think you know which one you like better. Don't worry about the prestige of a specific program... they are Yale and Stanford, two of the best colleges in the world, and the departments will be very good at both. Follow your heart.

When it comes down to Yale and Stanford you really need to see how well you fit into each school because each are for a different type of student. I chose Stanford over Yale because the environment at Stanford was much more toward my liking and I enjoyed the student body. Yale's location was a big turnoff and I absolutely hated New Haven. I also thought alot of the kids there were stressed. Stanford was the opposite because the kids were so laid back and friendly and I fit right in. I suggest applying to both than going to both admit weekends (if you get in) and than seeing with which campus and student body you click with more. thats what I did and I think I made the best decision for me that I will never regret

Stanford is better for bio, but the difference is not as noticeable at the undergrad level. Stanford also offers more research opportunities, but once again, I don't really think that Yale has a significant dearth of bio research. One can't really decide between the two based on academics alone. Visit both and see where you fit better.

If you are good enough (and lucky enough) to get into both, then just flip a coin. You would have a great experience at either one.

It is too early to be thinking about this. I mean, for all we know, you may be rejected at both.

I agree - cross that bridge if you get to it.
