***Stanford Waitlist Thread 2019***

I know it’s hard but probably nobody got off the wait list most likely.

Harvard just said that they are going to take 60~70 students from waitlist.

@Planner
Most of your concerns about size are easily solved by bike! My first week on campus without a bike kind of sucked, but once people get bikes it takes 5-10 minutes max to get to where you need to go.

@ewho
That’s somewhat high, which means Harvard’s yield rate must’ve decreased from last year. Considering that Stanford’s most likely increased from last year, I think we could see Stanford surpass Harvard in yield, which is surprising to me. Based on personal experience and talking to people I met I thought Harvard was going to win out.

But then again I genuinely believe it’s pointless to get caught up in such a minute difference in statistics because I believe both schools, although target similar types of students, ultimately see kids with slightly different personalities matriculate. Just my personal opinion.

So no one off the wait list this year? Has anyone heard otherwise? i.e. on Twitter or on Facebook?

@guccigirl Thanks—we’ll definitely be getting a bike (preferably an old one, so it’s less likely to get stolen!)!

Interesting that you think there’s a slight difference in the personalities of students who matriculate at Stanford and Harvard—that was my sense too (though admittedly from a very limited sample). The Harvard matriculants seem more swayed by the name/prestige; the Stanford (or Yale, or probably any other school) matriculants seem less caught up in that and more concerned with the overall package (e.g., whether they’ll be happy there, how much the weather is a factor for them, etc.).

GOT OFF THE WAITLIST YESTERDAY!

Wow! Congrats!! That is awesome.
I really, really did not think anyone was getting in since they said they had to open new dorms because of yield. Wonder what this means…

Hmmm…narmanc posted in December that he/she had been admitted to Stanford. Something isn’t right here.

@pacnwmomof2 thanks for checking. I was too highly suspicious.

Well, actually, @narmanc posted "I’m going to be attending Stanford as a member of the Class of 2019. "

That may have been “expectant” or wishful thinking much like when someone says that they expect to get 2400 on the SAT when they take it.

@JustOneDad "Hey. I can read your essay. I was admitted to Stanford, and that’s where I’m going! So I don’t have to work on apps no more and can spend time helping you out.

Lemme know."

Looks like somebody’s lying, one way or the other.

Such a person should be banned on CC.

Yield was higher than expected. No one is getting off the waitlist.

^I keep wondering when they are going to release it?

Several of the Ivies - schools that, like Stanford, had released this information by this time last year - have also not released yield. I’m starting to wonder if some schools want to de-emphasize this metric.

My bet is that S thinks it has passed H in yield, but is having to wait 1)until all the waitlist frenzy is done ( have you seen the H waitlist thread!!!) to be sure they are right before they release the number and claim the throne and 2) for a great time to announce it.

@myyalieboy I agree.

@bluewater2015 I doubt if any of the schools want to deemphasize this metric—if anything, schools are going in the opposite direction (competing even harder with each other).

myyalieboy and Planner, you may be right that it’s just a matter of waiting to make sure of the numbers before releasing. Really in terms of accuracy anyway it would make sense for schools to release yield once classes start in the fall and they know for sure who shows up after summer melt etc.

Looks like this was just posted - 81.1%.

Not surprising—I had a feeling it might be higher than Harvard’s this year, even if only by a little bit.
