Stanford Waitlist Class of 2022

This is a discussion thread for those waitlisted by Stanford in the 2018 college application process. The letter says they will make a final decision on May 15. 2% of applicants made the waitlist according to their FAQ.

waitlisted as well. fairly surprised lol considering i got rejected from all the east coast schools i applied to, but accepting USC for now until stanford releases final decisions!!! what extra materials are you guys sending in, if any?

@teenbot I will be accepting Columbia for now, unless I can get off the waitlist for Stanford. I was also accepted to USC but received no financial aid, hopefully I can get some from Columbia. As for extra materials, idk. Maybe my art portfolio if they’ll take it and info on any awards/scholarships I win as they come

waitlisted too, think its going to be UCLA instead for me

Waitlisted as well. What will you guys write for the update form??

I though Stanford didn’t want any additional materials?

@mtnhightara there’s a 500 character box for updates when you accept/decline waitlist. idk how much this will affect final decisions tho

On the same boat here. I have no clue how I got waitlisted, I was 100% expecting rejection.

waitlisted too, think its going to be UCLA instead for me

I was waitlisted as well! It was a surprise after getting rejected by every other reach school I applied to! Best of luck to everyone! Also does anyone know if we should send anything else besides the update form? I read on previous threads that they really don’t want anything else.

@LaMaisonDesLunes Yeah from their faq it seems they just want the waitlist form

Waitlisted as well and deciding between Cornell and USC (and maybe UCLA if I can get off the waitlist!)
If anyone knows someone who got off the waitlist last year, what did they put in their statement? Does Stanford base their decision off of the waitlist form or mainly upon a review of the original application?

Anyone know how many were taken off the waitlist last year?

36 were taken off the waitlist last year. 656 accepted a spot on the waitlist.

@LaMaisonDesLunes Cheers mate, odds on similar for this year?

@matt2713 I hope so! They’ve been admitting fewer and fewer students each year… so maybe we could have similar results?

A friend at Stanford this year has a close friend who made it off the waitlist for class of 2021. What I was told is that she put anything she could on her waitlist form just to keep them updated. Mine mentions that I learned how to sew after I ripped my pants while ice skating to organizing a student walkout with a 3000 person turnout. I guess it all depends on what you want to say and what’s happened since you submitted your app!!! Best of luck all. I committed to USC already so I guess it’s just a waiting game now

I’ve been waitlisted as well. My friends have been telling me to write a LOCI (Letter of Continued Interest) to Stanford, but they seem like they really don’t want any extra materials. The Additional Info section for the waitlist is just as good, right?

@Jxnducil based on their faq, it states:

“We respectfully ask that you not submit additional letters of recommendation or additional materials such as writing samples, creative/performing arts credentials, photos, research papers, and certificates.”

Therefore, I am thinking that we should not send anything else besides the waitlist form.

Does anyone know when we’ll be able to find out yield rate?
