I'm currently a junior and really want to get into Engineering or Science over in my state college; and I'm a very smart individual. My freshmen year I got a 2.8 GPA, 3.5 Sophomore, and currently have a cumulative of 3.3, getting a 3.9 this semester with most AP/Honors classes. I want to know if there's still hope for me to bounce back from my mess ups in the beginning. I'm currently working towards my goal of making up for my grades by getting in the 30's for the ACT. I took it after getting high 20's on practice tests and feel like I can reach this goal by September.

Freshmen - 2.888
Sophomore First sem - 3.1
Sophomore Sec sem - 4.0
Junior First Sem - 3.888

I believe they focus heavily on Sophomore year onward.

If it doesn’t work out though, don’t rule out community college. Tons of friends of mine from high school didn’t get into any UCs they wanted, so they went the community college route and then all got into UCLA and Cal.

I think 5 of us went to UCLA straight out of high school. Then another 20-30 transferred in 2 years later from JC.

In the end we all have the same UCLA degree, just 5 of us paid twice as much :)

Your GPA should turn out fine. As UCLAMath said, many school don’t count the GPA from freshman. Also, you have a good upward trend too. If you have not taken ACT (or SAT) yet, you are a little bit late unless you are are sure you will get a good score on your first attempt.
