Starting a career in investment banking?

Is it possible to have one with a psychology degree that isn't from a top university and a 3.3 GPA. I'm also not good at math in terms of calculus, statistics, and accounting. All that being said, should I look at another career?

You should probably look at another career. It is possible to break in if there are some alumni from your school in banking and you can network with them well. Otherwise, it’s a tough path to enter given your circumstances. Good luck!

So do you know of any other career in finance I can do?

There are lots of opportunities at these firms with things like Operations, Equity Research, Asset Management, Human Resources, Risk Management, Capital Markets, Commercial Banking, Sales & Trading etc. Also it may be worth looking in to private wealth management. I’m not familiar with the processes for breaking in to those jobs but they are definitely more feasible than investment banking which happens to be the hardest. Try to do some research, talk to alumni in finance etc. Wall Street Oasis is another forum and a reasonable source for information if you do some good searching. Good luck.

I emailed my schools career services center so maybe they can help me out.

Investment banking is a notoriously challenging field to break into. The business involves heady, high stakes deals, huge sums of money and, bailout years excepted, unusually high levels of compensation. It’s no surprise that this is a tough area to get into.

Find another job in finance, preferably one that exposes you to valuation etc. and do that for a couple years then try to break into ibanking.

I’d be shocked if you could get a banking job right now, but after a couple years of related work, you should have a decent shot.

^^ wrong. You don’t get into IB doing some other job. You get recruited into it out of college.
If the OP wants a career in investment banking, the OP should try to secure one now. Although short of being a minority female or have family members that can hook OP up, I dont see how that will happen with a 3.3 not from a target, and with a psych degree. Unless OP goes for the back office jobs, which may be an interesting alternative.

^This. I guess the only hail mary would be to network, but it’d take a miracle
