I know this is a topic that has been discussed before, but I wanted to focus more on the drawbacks of starting a club. I recently realized our school doesn’t have many charity clubs, and the ones we do have are pretty poorly managed. I’ve been looking for a way to give back to the community on a larger scale, and I believe a club would be a great way to do so. However, I’m a sophomore, so if I were to start one it would have to be in junior year. I’ve heard many people say starting a club can actually negatively impact you, since it will look like resume passing. Additionally, I’m a little nervous about the amount of work it will take to start and manage a club. I know colleges really want to see commitment so i guess it can seem out of the blue to start a club late into high school. However, this is something I feel passionate about, so does anyone specifically know how starting a club junior year can negatively impact you?
@poubelle1 I personally started a fashion and beauty club at my school last freshman year and the meetings started the following year. I teach girls how to design clothings, sew, do basic makeup, educate them on different career fields and etc. I’m currently in my junior year of high school.
I don’t think this club has negatively impact me in anyway but I have had a couple troubles trying to manage the club and my studies as I doubled my course load. It can only negatively affect you if you struggle managing your time. Because it can be a lot of work. Make sure you ask people to be an officer for the club so it can take some of the stress off of you. But overall this club has been really rewarding and I love guiding younger girls and talking about something I’m passionate about.
