hi guys, my first semester is over, and i
m not satisfied with my involvement in the campus life so far. i was going to join some clubs, but the choices were limited, and some clubs i tried turned out to be really boring. so i decided to try opening my own club, let it be a spanish one because i like learning and practicing the language. moreover, there is no spanish club on my campus. the problem is that i don
t know what people do in the clubs, especially in a language club - i guess there should be some goals, events, a purpose, and not just getting together, chatting in spanish, discussing homework. this is my first experience with the american educational system, and in my country we don
t have any clubs like that at all. overall, i
m looking here for some feedback from you guys, from those who were part of a language club or just have advice for me. i want to start not just a club, but something interesting for other students. thanks

At my school, the spanish/latino club has events where they do meals from different hispanic countries (mexican, or cuban, for example). Also, they have some awareness days and things like that, but you could also have times where people can come and practice their spanish with native speakers and things like that. You could show some hispanic movies. Talk to a Spanish professor about being the adviser. At my school, to start a club, you have to go through the SGA to get funding and be preliminary for about a year and such.
