Starting freshmen Year in London -Good Idea?

Again thanks to all who have responded, it has really helped. In fact, I am taking son to get his passport today. His AOL away message yesterday was "confused, tired and excited." I think that says it all about the emotions about starting your college career in London.

My dd got the same offer from Skidmore--she didn't accept it because Skidmore wasn't her first choice. Her best friend had a similar opportunity at Wheaton College (MA) and took it. That turned out to be a good decision and her friend enjoyed London; she's now at Wheaton and has adjusted. She roomed with the same girls as she had in London, so that made the transition easier.

Today is "D" day - son is making his decision today about whether he is going to London via Skidmore's first year experience or to Ithaca College. I can admit I have not been this nervous since the day he was born. One decision is safe, the other, at least as I see it, is the chance of a lifetime. Yesterday, the local paper did a full page story on my son entitled, "Hard work pays off". The story talked about how he is struggling with this decision and how much fun he and I had last summer traveling around looking at colleges. I knew they were doing a story, but I thought it was just a quick blurb. I will let you know his decision sometime today. Thanks again to all who wrote in here and helped a dad who has never gone through this before (I have a high school junior and sophomore - Ugh - so I get to go through this again for the next two years.)

Post the link to the story jollymon!!! That's really nice for him.

My daughter is still undecided about next year, but I think she has real hesitations about the London program...and she does love London. She's just worried about not having that shared experience of freshman year on campus. On the other hand, I think it could be a very exciting way to begin college and Skidmore is a very wonderful school.

This is not an easy decision for the London 36. When you went to the accepted student day, were the other London kids sure about going?

And the decision: (drum roll please) - Skidmore in London! We are all so happy today! I am the happiest dad on the planet! I wish the story about him was online, I don't think it is. I got the feeling they all wanted to go, but wasn't sure. Son slept on it, came down stairs and made the decision. I had both college's stuff on the table and told him to accept one and turn down the other. With a big smile, he chose Skidmore. Off to Red Lobster tonight to celebrate.

Whoo hoo! I'm glad he went for Skidmore in London. It sounds like such a fantastic opportunity! Congratulations to you all!

Congratulations on the decision jollymon!!! Enjoy your celebration dinner!!!

I'm really looking forward to getting to celebrate a decision, too. I have a feeling that that isn't going to be until April 30 at midnight!!!

Thanks to all of you, it really means a lot! Great meal, happy conversation and much to look forward to. Good luck to all of you going through these very tough choices!
