Starting grad program this fall...

I just wanted to start a thread for people who starting grad school this fall.

Where are you attending? what program?
Excited? Nervous?

Just wanted to start a new thread...

Mathematics at Brown.
Really excited and definitely more than a bit nervous.
Mostly happy to get the hell out of Ohio :-D

What does it take to get into a grad programme in top schools emengee

is it less competitive than the undergraduate admission?
what makes the applicant sound peculiar, in other words how one can show his work in a stellar n smashing way as the adcoms want ??

Congrats for being admitted into Brown
People engraving the glory .. I love you

Starting PhD in geology at Wisconsin - Madison.

I just moved to Madtown...We (my fiance and I) got here yesterday and are still unloading the truck. I am quite nervous, but not really with starting the program. I'm more worried about falling in love with Madison as much as I loved Chapel Hill. Plus, I go back to Chapel Hill tomorrow to get ready to defend my MS thesis on Aug. 18, so it's a very stressful but also exciting time for me.

I'm also worried about my fiance. Neither of us have spent time here, I was only here for a weekend once and this is his first time to Wisconsin ever. Now I have to get up and leave him in an unfamiliar place to find a full-time job while I tie up my loose ends in NC.

On a happy note though...I do love the apartment we got! I just hope it's easier than it looks to get into campus everyday. ;)

IR at UChicago

I'm excited but at the same time it is going to be another stressful, work-intensive, crazy year and I barely survived last year. I'm in a one year masters program so it is very concentrated and I have to hit the ground running. I always thought that I would be a perpetual student but more and more I feel I will need a break from it for a while once I finish my masters. I need to make a little money and feel like I am living in the 'real' world instead of the ivory tower.

I'm starting a biology PhD program at Harvard. Luckily I didn't have to move anywhere -- just down the street from my undergrad dorm. :)

I'm excited and nervous and ready for it... and I just found out yesterday that I'm going to have to spend my first year of grad school planning my wedding, too. :D

Congrats mollie! :D I'm going to have to spend some time this year planning my wedding as well (the parents are getting antsy...we have been engaged for nearly a year and a half...). At least you are in a familiar town and probably have some ideas already constructed.

I'm just glad to have an excuse to leave my mom's house ASAP.

Thanks!

Haha, my future mother-in-law is really worried that planning a wedding + first year of grad school will make me crazy. But it's okay! I'm crazy already!

We're going to have our reception at Boston's Museum of Science. How dorky is that for the couple that met at MIT? :)

That is sooo cute!

bump.........

High speed internet is so much fun from home.

DS far too modest to post and could care less. But I, as parent can brag as much as I want, in fact, "itstoomuch."

DS, @Toronto on MS fellowship. Started Aug 1. Advisor Prof said to pick a research project from list or something close with interest. Prep as TA for class Advr Prof is teaching fall term. Look for 18month living quarters and get himself lost in environs. Make new friends.

PhD, MIT Biology.

Very, very excited. Very, very nervous.

:)

MPA, U of D ( my alma mater)

Full scholarship and stipend...they paid me off, once again, to go there

I'm very excited about my assistantship and my classes...can't wait!

Materials Science at UCLA

I'm moving from Toronto, Ontario so I'll be really far from everyone I know.
I'm really nervous but looking forward to it!

I might be getting excited soon...my thesis will be off to my committee today! yay! This means my defense is actually going to happen next week! happy dance :D

Ophiolite,

Was that your master's thesis? what was your title? AND, good luck!
Tell, us how it went.

Thanks Alpha!

My thesis is entitled:

"Zircon Inclusion Suite Analysis of the Ashe Metamorphic Suite, NC: Implications for Exhumation History of Eclogite"

Doubt it means much to anyone on here, but I'm proud of it so far (I have one blank that will be filled in early next week).

I basically was trying to figure out how a certain group of unique metamorphic rocks in the Blue Ridge mountains were exhumed to the Earth's surface. It should be published in the next year or so, depending on how fast my collaborator gets his lab work completed.

Keep me in your thoughts next week! I'd like this signed, sealed, and delivered by the end of the month! :D
