I have not been involved in school and out of school during my freshman and sophomore year. During the summer, I had just started volunteer at a YMCA center for two hours a day only on Saturdays. If I start getting involved in school during my junior year, how will colleges think of this?

oh yes, the summer mentioned above is after I finished my sophomore year.

I am a rising junior, just like you, and I have never been seriously thinking about college until now. I started volunteering recently too, but I don't think it really matters too much. I mean, on the application, you put how many hours you've volunteered, not necessarily how long you've been volunteering for, right?

anyone please give us a feedback?

It's a fine starting point.

were you in any clubs prior to 11th grade?

Colleges won't ask you how many hours you've volunteered for, although they will ask you for your time commitments to each of your activities. You could put the total number of hours in your resume.

joining clubs in junior year will look better than not joining them at all. Just dedicate yourself to them and make an impact. If possible, maybe try to attain leadership. Good Luck

I've been wondering about this too. Does it greatly decrease your chances for top schools?

I'm sure that late activities are better than no activities :)
