Starting To Prepare for Math: SAT MATH 1 OR 2?

HI GUYS!!!!!

I HAVE AN ISSUE WHICH MATH TO TAKE:1 OR 2.

i have been studing math hard at school.i just need to remember algebra ,geometry.

OF COURSE, for such kind of a person math 1 is what he should take BUT I HAVE 3 MONTHS AND WILL IT BE REALISTIC TO PREPARE VERY WELL AND PASS MATH 2 (aiming 800)?

THE REASON IS THAT IN MATH 2 I CAN MAKE 8 MISTAKES AND GET 800..ITS SO CHARMING :)))

is it realistic to STUDY(REALLY STUDY) all the sat math2 material in 3 months?

“THE REASON IS THAT IN MATH 2 I CAN MAKE 8 MISTAKES AND GET 800…ITS SO CHARMING ))”

Hmm… Not sure where you are getting your information. A friend of my D missed **one **on Math II and got a 790. If you allow yourself to miss 8, I think you’d be lucky to make a 600.

Mathematics Level IIC. Hands down.

@dignified1 - Are you sure your D’s friend did not take Math Level I instead? The Math II subject test is known for having a fairly generous curve. I definitely skipped four questions on Math Level II (I’d assume I missed none of the questions I answered, though), and I still managed to score an 800. Other CCers and some of my friends have had similar experiences.

@OP - If you are absolutely determined to take a math subject test, then Math II is definitely the right choice. It is the one most colleges prefer, plus–as you noted–you can miss more questions and still score 800.

However, I’m not sure taking a math subject test is in your best interest right now, because it sounds as if you haven’t learned trigonometry in class. If that is case, while it’s certainly possible to score an 800 in three months with significant preparation, it may be better to take another SAT II instead–one that you’ve already covered in school. Then, after you’ve taken pre-calculus and trig, you’ll be in a much better position to take the Math II subject test, and you won’t need to devote too much extra time either.

@Exodus - He was obviously being sarcastic.

Hmm, if you take Math Level II, it has a much more generous curve than math level I. However, this comes at the cost of higher-level math questions.
Math level II covers up to precalculus/trigonometry mathematics, and Math level I covers up to the second year of Algebra. If you have a really firm grasp on Algebra and Geometry, I’d say that within 3 months, you should be able to get down all the trigonometry and higher-level math that’s on the SAT Math II. You really have to study, though.
In short, study hard and take the Math II.

it depends on which you think you can do better on; if you’re not sure, take a subject test in each and see which one you’ll do better on. if you’re looking for an 800, math II would be easier to do that on if you study since the curve is better, but if math isn’t your best subject and you just want a good score, i’d say go with that. the only other reason to take II over I is if you’re planning on majoring in math or engineering; in that case, it’ll look a lot better to challenge yourself with level II. if you’re going to major in the humanities, why waste your time studying for the harder test? there’s really no bad option here, just go for the one that feels right for you :)

guys thanks for comprehensive answers!!!

THANKS… i decided to take math 1 !

@doctoribach - I really think it depends on what you know already… If you have mastered good algebraic/geometric/problem-solving skills go with Math I (getting 800 here is a bit harder than in Math II)

but if you have time to do some trig identities/trig functions - definitely go with Math II
