Hi. I'm a current senior who's first choice college is University of Pennsylvania. I am unsure of my chances of being accepted but i have already been accepted to the Temple University Honors Program. If I don't get into Penn, do you think that: 1.) Temple Honors offers a good pre-med curriculum and 2.) Does graduating form an honors program help mu chances of being accepted to a med school (hopefully the University of Pennsylvania's Med School)? I appreciate any feedback thanks.

2.) Not really. Honors designation isn't that big a deal.
3.) It's not reasonable to fixate on a specific medical school at this point -- in fact, it's unreasonable to pick a "top choice" until you're actually interviewing at them. The odds at this point are just too low and the information just too sparse.

Just wondering...

is it better to go to an Ivy league college and pay 50k a year (even though it will be hard to pay) or a public school's honor program, and go for free? Which is better in the long run?

... depends on what you want from school, how much money your family has, and lots of other things that you haven't told us.

Well, most of the 50k per year would have to be paid through loans.

The point is, overall, is name more important or is being able to afford the school?

If we're talking about a 200k difference, I'd go for the state school. There's something wrong when you accumulate more debt in undergrad than in med school.

If it's a very prestigious school, they're going to offer you some grant aid, probably. "Overall" there's no right answer. It depends on how important the money is to you, how important the education experience is to you.

Are you asking whether medical schools will car about the name brand? In general, not really. They also don't care about how much money you have on hand.

Thank you for rephrasing my question, Butterflies, and thank you bluedevilmike and norcalguy for answering.
