What do you think? I'm really struggling with this decision. I originally applied to Temple only as a safety and did not even put a thought into their honors program. However, when I received the acceptance to it, I started to put more consideration into Temple.
I plan on being a biology major (pre-med), and i know Ursinus is good with their pre-med program, but if i go to Temple i'll only have to pay for dorms. What do you think?

I was accepted to Ursinus and visited it during scholarship interviews. It is a well known to have a rigorous Bio program - they have like approximately a 90percent acceptane rate to med school. I liked Ursinus a lot - it's small, the campus is pretty, somewhat close to Philly. I did not like that everyone looked exactly the same. Also, the price-tag is killer on Ursinus.

I don't know much about Temple - one of my best friends is going there for pharmacy. It is a very urban campus I heard.

Good luck with your decision. I hoped this helped somewhat.

Congrats on your acceptances, alas!

These are two well respected schools so you really can't go wrong. Of course, one is a suburban LAC and the other is a major research university in an urban area. They are like night and day. If money is no object for your family, then pick whichever feels best to you. But if money is an issue, go with Temple. People sometimes forget that "fit" refers to financial fit as well as program, environment, etc. And if you're planning on med school, you will almost certainly have to go into debt for big bucks.

thanks for your ideas. I think a big concern for me, as well, is which college will open more doors for me in the future and along the way. Ursinus because of the good acceptance rate to med school? or Temple because of its size, location, and networking?

Hi again!

I just took a look at Temple's web page. As I suspected, they have a medical school AND a community health services center. Have you given any thought or done any research re: the field experiences and research opportunities that would be available to undergrads at Temple? The key to getting into med/grad schools is to amass a set of valuable experiences that set you apart from the hordes of applicants. So the availability of these opportunities at Temple (and Ursinus) would be good to check out.

Good luck!

These really are VERY different schools. Temple has a lot of commuters, but has made more of an attempt in recent years to beef-up on-campus life. Ursinus is in a small town- access to Philadelphia is NOT that easy. They do bus kids to King of Prussia Mall, which is huge. Valley Forge is relatively close and there is a great hike/bike path close to Ursinus that goes all the way to Valley Forge and even into Philadelphia. I have spent a LOT of time in Collegeville and I think it would get pretty limiting for a college student. On the other hand, Temple is a true city school in a city that can be a little rough. My nephew visited Temple and he and his family were very impressed with the campus and facilities, though. There is a HUGE network of Temple grads in Philadelphia and it is well-respected.
