This situation has me on edge a bit. Pitt is one of my D’s top schools. I’m curious how this will impact their experience, tuition, scholarships etc if lawmakers fail to pass funding bill? http://www.post-gazette.com/opinion/editorials/2017/10/17/No-idle-threats-State-related-universities-need-state-funding/stories/201710310020
This seems to happen almost every year but this year it seems it is drawing out longer. Last year it was settled and life moved on. Tuition scholarships did indeed seem lower across the board, but historically it seems the bar has been raised every year.
For in-state students, word on the street is there will be an $11,000 tuition increase. The campus newspaper from last week had a front page story with the Chancellor stating there could indeed be a mid-year tuition hike starting in January.
Hello,
We don’t yet know what the impact will be for PA students until the legislature provides a plan. Hopefully it will all be resolved and we will receive the state funding soon.
If you are an out-of-state student, your tuition will not go up if the state chooses not to give us funding. If you are a Pennsylvania student who could be affected by a tuition increase, the University is making plans to lessen the consequence of the legislature potentially withdrawing the state subsidy that applies to every student in the short term.
No matter what happens, Pitt will continue to provide students with an outstanding education.
Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
Thank you both!
