Both the state of the union and the republican response were pretty hilarious.

It’s gonna take 10+ years for the economy to get out of this slump. I say bring back Clinton. One of the few presidents of the modern era to have seen an INCREASE in approval ratings after one term, even bringing our country out of debt.

It was the Bush “dynasty” that has led to our demise. Down with Bush. Noam Chomsky ftw.

Noam Chomsky. <3

Sounded like every state of the union I’ve ever heard. Nothing more, nothing less.

I like though that he called out the supreme court on their BS decision. Bravo for him for that!

What BS court decision?

Reversing the corporate funding decision. It was a loss for all American voters, regardless of political ideology.

I have no idea what that means.

Political Science is so boring.

Well considering it affects your life and your freedoms and pretty much everything you do as a citizen, you should know what it means.

I care about helping the homeless (a majority of whom are schizophrenics and should be in hospitals), people in third world countries, and animals. That’s about it.

I don’t really care about normal people. We still have things a lot better than we did years ago.

Ok then let me put it in your terms. Many private organizations own hospitals that treat the sick (including schizophrenics). With this decision, corporations are allowed to spend even more money to put people they want in office. Where do you think that money is coming from? The hospital, not their pocket books. Therefore, less money for schizophrenics.

Politics is all BS.

Deinstitutionalization has been happening for decades now. It just has to do with people believing that people will be better in the real world and for people being scared of crazy people and not caring.

I’m just mad at people for mistreating their animals more than anything. But you can’t change people’s meanness with politics.

And I agree, TJISTM.

I was watching it and I thought it was funny how the camera like looked at the Supreme Court justices after he said something about limiting the money lobbyists can spend. I forgot what network I was watching it on.

fuzzle, I agree with you. If you have been around this board at all in the last few years (which I have a feeling you have) then you know that I am a staunch vegetarian, animal rights activist, human rights activist, etc. That is why this is a blow to our views. They are pumping more money into politics that could/should be going towards other things. For someone who wants to help people and/or animals, it behooves you to know what the government is doing with our money and who exactly puts them into power -.-

I donate to the Human Society (and sometimes WWF, because I love pandas and other exotic animals). I feel like that’s the best thing I can do right now. I’ll never donate to a non-animal charity.

I wish politics weren’t as important as it is. I mean, News networks are even profiting off of politics. That’s not how it should be.

I watched it… It was fun to watch Nancy Pelosi read his telepromter over his shoulder. The best part was when he said “That’s how budgets work!” and all the Republicans burst out laughing…

It makes me incredibly sad that so many citizens are so incredibly ignorant about what our government is doing and how it affects us. The Supreme Court decision is MONUMENTAL and atrocious and the vast majority of Americans have no idea what I am talking about.

^ It removes the limit on persons or organisations running ads in favor of their views with their own money, right? IMHO that’s freedom of speech. They still can’t contribute directly to the candidate.

^ It removes virtually all campaign contribution limitations. All it does is give much more power to wealthy organizations that don’t have voting power. It also promotes corporations to the status of “persons” which means, essentially, that private business could (in theory) have the right to vote. After all they are now defined as a “person”.

Companies did not have freedom of speech until this ruling. A company was not a “person” and therefore not entitled to the rights provided to PEOPLE via the Constitution. The Constitution was created to protect American citizens, not businesses. We were also never meant to be run by companies (think bans on monopolies, etc) but welcome to the future. President Wal-Mart here it comes!

^Companies are owned by people.
