State school to Ivy

Hey guys,

I was wondering the difficulty of transferring from a state school to an Ivy? Do they take that into consideration? Could it count against you?

College: University of Texas
Major: Business Honors, Plan II
College GPA: 4.0
HS Rank: 13/741
ECs: Ultimate Frisbee Team (9th ranked college team in the country), College Council Senator, Intramural Basketball Captain, Breakdancing Club
Recs: Not as bright as I would hope

Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing?

Thanks

there's plenty of kids that get accepted into Ivys from state schools. Your coming from one of the best so that helps as well.

Maybe not Harvard or Yale--not impossible but unlikely for just about anyone--but the rest are possible.

Not Princeton. They don't accept transfers.

I think you have a good chance at Cornell. Apply there!

Sound like pakiboy..lol.

He will probably show up in a few mins...

Yup...maybe he won't need to though. You stole his line..

heh it's funny that you mention getting into harvard and yale. Those are my 2nd and 3rd choices. Would I have a chance at HYPS, Penn, and Columbia? My friend's dad is a fairly powerful Princeton alum, and he might talk to President Tillman about a transfer application.

It's still against their policy. I couldn't imagine them allowing a transfer, even for a powerful alum.

hmm. does anyone here know anyone who's successfully transferred to HYS?

soccer_guy472,

you'd be very surprised.

dang, ixjunitxi, what you mean? did you xfer to pton?

No one has ever transferred to princeton, except for this one kid who got recruited for football in like 1998.

No, I did not transfer to Princeton...but a big time alum w/money coule make anything happen... MONEY TALKS...even at princeton

oh, haha indeed it does. unfortunately the alum i know isn't exactly big money (by Princeton standards, I mean, he's probably a multimillionaire), but he knows people who know Pres. Tillman

I'm at a state school in NY, have 24 credits, also thinking of applying for an Ivy Transfer (I got into Cornell and Columbia in 2000 then took 7 years off to work and travel :)

But as I posted in the other Ivy Transfer thread... Alternate strategy is just enjoy the low-stress environment and ego-boosting of being an excellent student at a Public School, ace the graduate admissions tests, and get into a top grad school...

ivy-transfer: are you currently a freshman or sophomore?

JFK and Woodrow Wilson transferred to Princeton but I think they are the exception.

I think JFK attended Princeton and then transferred to Harvard.

PierreMarie: I am a freshman
Boston and CMA1: JFK went to London School of Economics for a year, and then transferred to Harvard.

I'm thinking of not applying to Harvard because of the applicant pool strength
