i am asian, and i heard that is a disadvantage so should i not check asian when it asks for ethnicity? it says its optional, but would it hurt me if i dont check anything? its not like im ashamed of being asian, but im wondering if not checking anything will help my chances. thanks!!

If they can make out from your name, it won't change the picture. If not, then leave it off - it certainly doesn't help you, so can't see any reason to tell them. Full disclosure - my daughter is half Asian and left it off, for various reasons, but this would have been my advice to her regardless.

I'm asian too.
Can't hide it, because I have to submit a green card copy anyway.

But... if you have one of the common names like Wang, Li, etc, then there's no point to NOT say it... But yeah, if they can't really tell, then don't put it there.

Don't they see the photo of you on your transcript though?

?? Can't say I've ever seen a transcript with a photo, but clearly your school does it that way....

haha well, my last name is a common asian one so im sure they can tell. should i leave it off still?? does it hurt me to leave it off nobody does anybody know?

since it's optional, it can hardly hurt. It won't change anything, though

huh. what's wrong with being asian.

I AM PROUD TO BE A CHINESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:P anyway. i left that out too. coz i don't see how i fit in any of them. and i was scared i check the wrong one.

but i stated clearly that i'm a chinese in my personal statement. :)
