Statistics Major

Hello,

I'm a sophomore at the University of Illinois without a major. I am considering being a statistics major and would like some information about it.

1) Do most staticians enjoy studying their major and jobs?
2) How difficult is it to procure a job with a statistics degree?
3) What's the job security?
4) What's the expected pay with this degree right after graduation and ten years later?

I'm aware that I should specialize my focus with a statistics major. I am interested in the business world, and if I become a stats major, can it be easily applied to finance? If not, what are some other business-related fields statistics easily applies to?

Thanks,
MrWoot

In addition, what kind of research to statistician grad students and professors do?

i know stats grads make good actuaries, who are somehwat involved in finance and make good money, but i heard it could also be boring
i think UIUC also has an actuarial science major as well

you should also highly consider Mathematical Finance. For example, NYU's Math. Finance dept. is very highly ranked.

Take a look at the American Statistical Association's link to careers in stats: http://www.amstat.org/careers/index.cfm?fuseaction=brochure
