[li] Strengths: Fairly good GPA, good personal statements, non-traditional student, completed honors program
[/li]

[li] Weaknesses: I had a lot of prior bad grades that I had to work to overcome that dragged down my GPA
[/li]

[*] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think having TAP and TAG helped a lot for both of the schools I got into, but not having any of the pre-reqs for UCI is probably what killed me there (I changed majors at the last minute). For some reason my geography courses were not transferable to Cal, and I think that’s probably what hurt me there.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I got my hope up when I was accepted by UCLA, I was then devastated when I got rejected by Berkeley. I thought if I was admitted by UCLA [an extremely high average GPA], I would be easy to get into Berkeley [lower GPA], but the truth is not. Guys please work on your PS. It could help a lot but also could ruin your chance. Good luck![/li][/ul]General Comments:

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Hooks and extracurriculars
[] Weaknesses: GPA
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected from Berkeley probably due to my GPA being on the lower side.[/li][/ul]General Comments: To be honest, I would have turned down Berkeley even if I did get in. I ultimately decided to go to Santa Cruz. It didn’t hurt that last week I found out I am the recipient of the Karl Pister Leadership Opportunity Award from my college. My advice for future transfers: think long and hard about which college is the best fit for you. Ratings are not everything. Weigh YOUR pros and cons since you’re the one going. Good luck to you, and congratulations to this year’s transfers  !

It was honest.

Reflection
Strengths: Perfect transcripts. Hard work. Honest personal essay without a trace of pandering, just a story that I wrote to whomever was there reading admission documents on that particular day. It was esoteric perhaps, but I had the stats to uphold that kind of an essay. It was meant to be simple and beautiful, and I spoke mostly about nature and how fortunate we are to live on this beautiful planet earth. Expressed dedication to my education and the need to contribute to my community.

Notes:
It is my belief that UCLA did not read my personal statement but rated my application high because of the stats and organization of my transcripts which were consistent. And I believe that UCB read my PS and both of those schools thus determined my admission to the other schools that I applied to—via the Holistic Method. Good luck future applicants.

[] Applied for Financial Aid?: YES
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Personal Statement, TAP for UCLA, Honors Program, Founded my own club
[] Weaknesses: GPA, and about 20 W’s from when I worked full-time a few years ago… yes, 20! I was considering whether I should even disclose the number since I don’t want anyone to think that getting excessive W’s is no big deal, because it’s a HUGE deal. But, I had valid reasons for them, including verifiable medical reasons (was in the hospital at one point), which I explained thoroughly in my PS.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: By the grace of God, my past four semesters of straight A’s, and my personal statement.[/li][/ul]General Comments: I am in total shock… I was accepted to every school I applied to: CSULB, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB, and just got a Spring Grade Request from USC. I am totally overwhelmed! I had already SIR’d to UCLA since it was my dream school, and I didn’t think I had a shot at Berkeley, but now I don’t know what to do! I always thought that getting accepted to every school would be really exciting (which it is), but it also makes my decision way, way more difficult! In any case, I hope that I can be an inspiration for future transfers who are a bit older, and have been through a lot, but have been able to pull themselves back up with a LOT of hard work and determination. Aim high, and never doubt yourself! I wish you the best of luck!
