as an incoming lsa student interested in applying to ross, would you recommend taking this over stats 350? i've done a bit of stats before and a lot 350 honestly sounds like a repeat. however, the course guide says engr101 is a prerequisite for 265, so is there a way to get out of that?

in terms of my level of calculus, i will be getting IB credit for math 115 and 116.

Bare in mind you need to have math 116 (calc 2) done. It is an enforced prereq. wanda dobberstein (the ioe advisor) should give you an override if you have that done (it’s a much more important prereq than engin 101), just email her. I got one my freshman year. Stats 265 (IOE 265) is a lot more in depth and useful than stats 350, and also a lot more application based. Expect your grade to be lower with the same effort though, but if you truly want to learn and will work hard, do 265. Also, taking an engineering class shows that you can handle a tough courseload, and if you can do well in it, it shows a certain level of quantitative ability which is important in many business career.

it also sets you up for many future probability and stochastics classes, which is important if you want to go into structured products or the slightly more quantitative side of trading.

so in spite of receiving credit for it, i need to have taken math 116? i’ve done practically everything in that class according to the course guide and i don’t feel like sitting through it again.

otherwise, 265 sounds like a better route for ross.

no… what i mean is you need to either have credit for 116, which sounds like you do. Then you are fine.

oh alright, that works then - i appreciate the info.

also, do you happen to know the average grade for 265? and when’s the best time to request an override?

low B- with Herrin.
high B- with Garcia Guzman
