What are the intro Stats classes worth taking at UMich?

Stats 250/350 sounds completely worthless from what I've heard. Would Stats 400 or Stats 412 be better choices? And IOE 265? What are differences between the courses?

I think I’m going to take Stats 426, but I might take 412 instead…

Stats 425 is great, it’s all probability though. If you like probability, go for it. 426 is a b**** (you need 425 as a prereq).

^If I’m going to take 425 anyway, will 426 still be much harder than 412?

Don’t really know anything about 412. My comment was made under the assumption that you obviously have taken 425. I imagine it would be much worse w/o the prerequisite knowledge.

426 isnt bad at all.

^Eh, if you factor in the curve, I guess, if you want to look at it like that. The material is f****** annoying though. Average on our midterm was less than 30%. I think the final got into the 30s. Maybe it’s gotten easier over the past couple of years (but if it hasn’t, then your comment does not speak to the average student, at all).

Let me put it this way… Am I likely to get a substantially better grade in 412 than 426? I have to take one of those.

It depends. Just read the 412 course description and it looks like it’s much easier material. But, if you’re the kind of person that rapes the curve in hard classes, you might get a better grade in 426.
